The service was amazing and the room size was good too. They have a quiz night on every Sunday which kept the bar going till late - really enjoyed it as we got to meet many other couples there. Not too far from cardiff city centre and cardiff bay - all in all a definite stay if you are in Cardiff for fun...grt value for money as we got a discount offer being their regular member.

We went on a weekend package leisure break, where we got bed and breakfast as well as the first night in the verve for 'free'. We had asked for interconnecting rooms which we did not get; so we had to change rooms when we arrived.
The food in the verve grill was over priced and I found a piece of wire in my chicken! So did not pay for this. What they fail to tell you is that the 'free' meal in the package is under £18 only and you have to pay the rest. Breakfast was ok- it was a buffet cooked breakfast, so things were overcooked. Had to ask for more cooked eggs as they were like frisbee's. The melon was off and about 10 minutes later I was sick, I know it was the melon. Staff are not good at clearing plates. It all seemed a bit rushed.
The victory pub and kitchen was good. Drinks are expensive. Just pub food, some of the same stuff from the verve but cheaper.
If you want papers delivered to your room you have to pay for these plus a £1.00 delivery charge. The complematry paper is the independant which is in the lobby.
If you wanted a quiet night sleep the disco does not finish till after midnight. The rooms are okay, shame there is no fridge and no toiletries in the bathroom e.g. bubbblebath or flannel etc. Make sure you check your bill before you leave as we were overcharged. Keep a record of what you spend.
The only good things about this hotel are the pool ,sauna and steam room. Also the healthworks where we had manicures and massages, but do book before you go. It was also on the expensive side. You can sit in the relaxation suite where there is complimenatry tea and coffee. The staff there were very nice. Would we go again? NO!

We decided to stay over at the Village in Cardiff the night before an away football match. The hotel was really easy to find, just off the M4 and there was plenty of free parking space available. The hotel staff were welcoming, however they complained that they were down to one printer so checking in took a little while.

Our room (a family room) was pleasant and had all the usual facilities but the bathroom looked a bit tired. One thing we did notice (during the night) was how overwhelmingly warm the hotel room was. The beds have a mattress pad on them which does make them comfortable, but I woke up in the night absolutely boiling. There was no air conditioning in the rooms and we didn't want to leave the window open as there was a wedding reception disco on in the rooms below.

We did try the swimming pool, which was lovely and they provide towels for you, although if you're travelling with children, make sure you check the childrens swimming times as they're restricted.

We also ate in the restaurant at night. The food was really good and the childrens' portions are HUGE! The only difference in the size of the kids gourmet burgers and the adults one was that they'd trimmed the edges off the ciabatta and served them up with about 6 fewer chips!

The free wi-fi was a bonus and worked really well too.

We were also able to leave our luggage there when we checked out and return later to collect it which was really handy.

Breakfast was good and we seemed to just time it right, getting a table straight away, although when we left there was quite a queue for tables forming.

All in all, it was a decent hotel, but more geared up to wedding receptions and special concert nights than somewhere to use as a base when visiting Cardiff.

I feel that they charge a premium charge because of the pool and gym facilities, so unless you're planning to use them fully, I think you could probably get better value elsewhere.

Impressive looking from the outside, but not as nice inside. They've tried to go for a modern feel, but fall short, with cheap furniture and old fixtures and fittings. The best feature of the Hotel is is gigantic Pool, with three jacuzzi's, lots of lounge seating, and large glass windows overlooking a wooded area.

Where they lack, is in the style of their bedrooms - we had a small double bed, yet their built in bedside tables are designed for a King, therefore there was a gap at either side - there was a strange brown blanket at the end of the bed made of course material, almost impossible to touch, so we put that away - no wardrobe, just a rail in the corner (bizarre!) - old water from the previous guest's stay in the kettle - and a layer of dust over everything. The bathroom was drab, with one towel each, and a real lack of care spent on it - mould in the grouting and a dirty shower screen. The rooms are stiflingly warm (maybe over the Kitchens), but we had a small fan which we used to cool the room enough to sleep in. Large flat screen TV, which was great though! The various times we passed the Housekeeping staff in the corridors, they were sullen and often too busy talking to one another to move their trolley out of your way, let alone acknowledge you.

We ate in the Bar on the first night, and the decor was really nice, service was good, but they served the meals on trays with sheets of paper on, rather than plates, which I thought was strange. Prices reasonable, and a good atmosphere. I will say though, the Reception area did seem to fill with smoke for the evening, again, maybe from the Kitchens.

We ate both mornings in the Restaurant, which had a large choice of food, but none of it was partiularly 'great', and staff were slow to re-fill empty serving dishes. I will say that they advertise quiet/medium/busy times at the weekend, so you know what time to go to avoid the queue.

We attended a family wedding, and the room in which the Reception was held was beautiful! Right size, well decorated, modern and comfotable. There was also a private bar area where you could catch up while they changed the room over for the night time. The staff did a great job serving us all, and we didn't wait long between courses.

We paid a reduced rate, as we were attending a wedding, and this was roughly half the standard rate. I will say that if I had paid full-price, I would have been very unhappy with the quality of Hotel. The rate we paid is similar to that of Motorway-side Lodges, and I felt it was a true representation of the actual value received.

I would stay again, but only on a reduced rate, and only if it was convenient for an event held there.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. It was far nicer than I thought it would be - their website makes it sound like a motorway motel so it definitely exceeded my expectations. The pool was absolutely huge and we had a good dinner in their bar and a nice breakfast in the morning. Very enjoyable.

Great gym, good breakfast and restraurant staff was lovely, but the hotel room was so uncomfortably warm that it made a night of sleep nearly impossible. Though it is summer and warm outside the only source to cool down was a very small fan provided in room and windows that barely opened.

The Village Hotel Cardiff is just off the M4 junction 32 where the A470 crosses.
Most guests would probably arrive by car and there is a large free car park available.
Without a car you could probably catch the bus or take a taxi, but be aware that it's about 5 miles to the centre of Cardiff.

My room was on the first floor and was clean and well equipped. Freeview television, Free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities with an iron and floor mounted fan. No air-con but the windows open a small way and over the two nights I was there, Thursday and Friday, there wasn't any noticeable noise.

The service in the Victory bar was good, drinks prices were higher than pubs though at £3.10 for a pint of Strongbow but the food was reasonable at around £10 for a burger meal. The Friday night promotion of a burger and fries for £2 when bought with a drink was well worth it.
Guests can use the leisure facilities free of charge. They give you a towel in the leisure centre reception and then its a refundable £1 coin for the lockers in the changing rooms.

I didn't sample the breakfast menu as I had to leave too early.

All in all, a good stay. I would say that you do need a car if you choose to stay here or your travelling costs will soon mount up. For what I wanted, an out of centre hotel with free parking and wi-fi, it certainly met my expectations. The pool was an added bonus.

All the staff I met were friendly and I would happily reccomend this hotel.

If you need a quiet room I would mention this at the time of booking as the hotel do specialise in theme nights and from other reviews it would seem that some rooms are closer to the function room than others.
