Stayed in room 1211, nice view over the city at night. Arrived at 4pm and found several spaces in the car park - a little tight but just be careful. Check in was quick. Room was clean and tidy. Had to call room service as no 'normal tea' only fruit teas, requested fresh milk which was delivered to room within 10 mins. Soap in bathroom was nice - lemon fragrance. Bed very comfy. Breakfast excellent, chef made omelet which was huge! Wide range of cooked and cold breakfast.

Modern city centre hotel. Plenty of parking at John Lewis across the road. Nice modern room where everthing worked and very clean.
Decided to eat in and had the two course set meal. No complaints with the tomato and garlic soup and bread, lovely. Then had a loooooooooooong wait for the 'Hanger steak'. It was truely awful- it was luke warm, sat on a bed of cold peppers and onion, swimming in a cold greasy sauce and tough as old boots. I sent the food back to the kitchen and was given plain steak and chips as an alternative which was at least hot and slightly less tough. Altogether it took two hours for a two course meal of soup and a steak.
However the hotel redeemed themselves because when I checked out in the morning they had waived the charge for the food. I was on business so no finanical benefit for me but I'm sure my company will be delighted when I submit by expenses.

Room Tip: I think you will find they are all pretty much the same unless you upgrade.

As previously mentioned the Hotel has a good location in the city centre & is a striking building. Close to John Lewis & a number of good restaraunts.

I should have remembered that the car park is tiny & you can't reserve a space. We arrived around 6pm to find it full & a small sign stuck to a traffic cone telling us to go & park in John Lewis which we duly did. Taking the lift up to the first floor of the store we felt stupid walking through the department store pulling suitcases behind us. There are no signs to the Hotel in the store but we eventuially found an exit & then had a fair walk to the Hotel in the rain!

On check-in my Gold Cub Carlson membership was not recognised or mentioned. I was told we had been given a room with a view but upgraded rooms were only for Concierge level members. Doh - check the Club Carlson website which states that Gold members get upgraded rooms & a welcome amenity in their room.

It was my wife's birthday & they placed a lovely decorated happy bithday plate in the room - thank you, a nice touch.

The bar area was like a noisy shed with voices reverberating around the place - not conducive to a quiet drink. We went out for dinner so can't comment on the restaurant.

Got soaked again when going to retreive the car next morning! Parking at John Lewis is £18 for 24 hours vs £15 for 24 hours in the Hotel car park, no offer from the Hotel to make up the difference or pay for it as they couldn't offer us a space. On checking out, I mentioned that they should offer valet parking like the Hilton Cardiff (our favourite Cardiff Hotel), can't see this happening though.

Won't be staying here again as the Hotel's attitude is too "take it or leave it"

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed our great location in the city. This also opens up many options for parking which we do kindly offer to our guests when our limited hotel car park is at full capacity on a first come first serve basis. NCP Pellet St is the most cost effective option whilst staying overnight with us priced at £1/hour or £6/24hours. Guests are able to drive into our drop-off zone to leave any luggage with reception at the main entrance to the hotel to ensure your arrival is as smooth as possible even if you are unable to park with us. In regards to upgrades, these are subject to availability but I do hope you stay with us again in the near future so you can experience one of our Business Class bedrooms or Junior Suites available.

I do hope your wife had a lovely birthday with us and I look forward to welcoming you both back again soon.

Kind Regards
Jens

Could not fault this hotel, we booked a suite and with this you get a VIP lounge and a VIP breakfast lounge.
In the lounge you are offered complimentary drinks, which was a nice touch before we visited the theatre.
The suite was spacious in excellent order right at the top of the hotel. As well as the usual coffee tea another nice touch with Nespresso coffee machine. Everything in the room was in immaculate condition, the staff very friendly and professional.
Will definitely stay at this hotel again

This is a very good hotel- clean and comfortable with friendly, courteous and efficient staff. The only drawback is that there was no full length mirror in the hotel - although there was one just outside the room - but who wants to go in to the corridor to check on your appearance. The car park (if you are lucky enough to be able to get a space) is overpriced ( gone are the days when you could use a hotel's card park for free) . Having said that I would definitely stay there again.

Easy to find, it's directly opposite John Lewis. Small underground parking option which is totally secured. Check in was swift and efficient and we were offered several rooms, based mostly on how high we wanted to be. Room is spacious, very clean and tidy and the bathroom likewise. Plenty of white, fluffy towels and complimentary bath accessories offered. There is a fridge, tea and coffee and all other standard accessories you'd expect of a hotel of this level. The elevators are very, very slow and laborious so avoid a top floor room if you are in any kind of hurry. We were advised of this on check in so that was a real plus point. We weren't in any hurry this time so it didn't matter.
I had stayed here a fortnight before on business and the breakfast was a hot and cold buffet style affair. This time however, as the hotel had few guests the hot option was taken as an order at your table. The most annoying thing on both occasions was that the best part of the restaurant was being laid up for lunch and therefore unavailable to breakfast users. It's 8 o'clock in the morning, is it really necessary to shut the best bit of the restaurant to lay up for something that will happen in 2 hours or so?
The other point to note is that they could not provide a single egg cup, so we had to become incredibly inventive with a shot glass in order to enjoy boiled eggs. We did raise this on departure and they assured us it would be addressed.
Don't bother with the upgrade to the business option it really is a rip off. There is a cordoned off area in the main lobby which I wouldn't thank you for ,where canapes are offered for an hour or so in the evening and breakfast is served elsewhere, again on the thoroughfare as everyone comes through to breakfast. There are some free papers but really, for the sake of the £1 to add to the room I cannot see the value of the business option. I have stayed elsewhere where this has been an option and it has been worth every penny.
The staff were knowledgable and helpful and I would stay again.

Room Tip: The higher you go the better the view but the slower the descent to the lobby. We took the stairs ma...
