“An ideal base”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2012

I eally liked the hotel from the minute we arrived. The location is perfect, the staff were very friendly yet professional and the rooms were lovely and modern and spotlessly clean. My only small complaint would be that the pool area was unbearably hot so we had to leave after 20 minutes. But I would definitely go back as long as I got it for a reduced price.

We have stayed here before and had a good experience, however the same could not be said this time. Service was very disappointing, from checking in to the very slow service at breakfast. Considering this is a 5 star hotel, the food at breakfast was really disappointing and I would not rate it anywhere near some of the hotels that we have stayed at. We think this is quite poor value for money, but ok if you can get a deal. It is convenient for the City and Cardiff Bay is a lovely place to visit. Otherwise, very overpriced, poor value for money when there is such a good selection in Cardiff.

Over rated at 5 star, hence significantly overpriced Was really looking forward to spending a night here but this hotel was certainly nothing special, have stayed in far superior 4 star hotels, had a suite on the top floor and the views were stunning all over Cardiff, staff were friendly but you also have to pay for parking in the hotel car park and there is even a surcharge for paying with your credit card on departure!
Room was clean although found a pair of knickers behind the curtains when drawing them back to enjoy more of the view!! quick call to housekeeping and a bottle of bubbly as way of an apology and all was resolved. Somebody had obviously enjoyed the room before our arrival!!
Left feeling rather underwhelmed and dont think I would stay again, not for the full price at least.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to make the most of the view.

The hotel is perfectly situated in Cardiff Bay a few minutes walk away from the restaurants a 20 minute walk from Central Station and with loads of parking. Concierge, reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. My bedroom was superb. Big and airy with a gorgeous bathroom, plenty of storage and a balcony. There is a private lift to the spa which is included in your room rate which is fabulous and you have a robe and slippers to use which saves you carrying suchlike.
The downside if you could call it that, is that the balconies abut each other and so if anyone goes out to smoke, you get it filtering in to your room. Ditto any chatting or children crying.
I shall definitely stay again.

Room Tip: From what I could see, the rooms are all the same. All with balconies.

Thanks for your kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay, however for future reference St David's is a no-smoking hotel and therefore your "neighbours" should not have been smoking on the balcony. There is a designated smoking area at the front of the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

Kind regards.

1st stay at this hotel for me and a 1st to stay in 5 star, on checking in I was suprised to see the reception area desks could have done with a makeover as looked worn and dated and why is their a bunch of green apples on one of the tops in a large bowl baffled me I think a flower presentation would have impessed me more. Check in was smooth on entering our room on 5th floor was inpressed to the view over the bay, we checked the bedding for cleaniness shock n horror it had a stain on sheet and hairs on bed sheet not happy, the duty manager was very apolgetic and gave us another room, the balconys are beautiful and amazing views of bay St Davids please update the table and chairs on Balcony as the one we had, had splinters in and had to use a towel to sit on,Carpets in the room look like they had done their time, beware of the walk in shower room the floor area after showering you really need to put a towel down to stop yourself from slipping,we booked to have our evening meal in the resturant which was very quiet only 5 tables in use the meal was excellent unfortuantly the wait was to long 2 hours later when i had a cup tea to finish meal off this came luke warm? so fed up by this time with the wait we left, the morning breakfast was very good as we were not very hungry due to an early start we asked if we were able to take some pastries and we were offered a box to help ourselves to takeaway, looked around spa and very nice seperate lift from your rooms to here so you could take advantage of going down in the bathrobes and slippers provided in rooms, the staff were very quiet and not very talkative It would have been nice to have seen them more relaxed and approachable overall we had a pleasant stay, no way is this hotel 5 stars, would I stay again yes as the location was ideal for were we needed to be.

Room Tip: ask for rooms on top floor these will have the best view
