“Last visit was great , this time even better.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

Despite the weather problems, we couldn't resist going ahead with our weekend in Cardiff.
We knew from a previous visit just how good the St Davids is, but this weekend has been even better.
The hotel has everything you would expect from 5* establishment. Alarmingly indulgent
rooms, seductively comfortable beds, excellent facilities, blackout curtains for that extra lay in, and luxurious bathrooms.
So what made the difference on this visit ? The staff.
Throughout the hotel everyone we met was exceptionally helpful or prepared just to have a quick word to ensure our trip was going well.
A special mention for the reception staff, who are extremely helpful, great fun and assisted in helping us with directions / recommendations with my partners quest for more shoe and clothes shopping. We later visited 26 shops, and I still want to come back again !

Room Tip: top floor with a view of the two islands - great way to wake up even on a wet morning.

We booked to stay for valentines 2013 lovely stay, really enjoyed BUT for the £233 that we paid for the night I don't think it is worth that at all. The cleanliness was not of high standard, I don't think it had been dusted for a while and the bath wasn't even clean!
The spa was 'nice' but nothing special just a jacuzzi, swimming pool and a run down sauna. The place needs updating.
I would stay here again but not at this price, I would rate it 4 rather than 5.
Oh and the restaurant wash lush! No complaints there.

Thank you for your review, the contents of which are noted. I was somewhat surprised to note your comments in relation to the cleanliness as this is indeed something that we pride ourselves on at St David's. Had you brought this to our attention at the time, we would of course have rectified the issue immediately. However my apologies in this regard.

In the meantime, I am pleased that you particularly enjoyed our Tempus Restaurant.

I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to witness our ongoing investment.

Kind regards.

We were there for 3 days, the rooms are superb as is the hotel facilities, however the service in the restaurant was poor, very slow, confused service with wrong orders being delivered, pretty poor for a hotel of this standard, and I think that some of it was language barrier with the foreign waiters.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last night as a birthday treat for myself. Everything was perfect, the room was so clean and comfortable, the view from the room was gorgeous, every member of staff we encountered was so helpful and polite. Breakfast was also very tasty. Already planning our next visit!

We were booked in here for a romantic Valentine's Day getaway which we do annually at different 4-5* hotels around Wales. When we arrived in the room, we were taken aback by the dismal decor, bedraggled faux fur lay atop of the small 'kingsize' bed whose mattress didn't even fit the divan underneath. The room in general lacked character, in way of furniture, we had an aged blue and green leather recliner so scratched and cracked that it could have been purchased from a car boot sale....not the 5 * luxury we expected. The bathroom was small and crowded, merely a shower head over a bathtub with a cheap shower curtain which is not what you'd expect from a "Deluxe King Room". When trying to use the TV which was affixed to the wall, we discovered that it wasn't on a bracket so that we could angle it correctly and there was nothing 'remote' about the tv control as it only worked if stood directly in front of the screen. Upon ordering room service, we requested two large diet cokes especially as the room came without a minibar and were presently give two 'mixer-size' 125ml bottles...prices at £2 each. Absurdly expensive so we resorted to walking to Tesco to stock up on soft drinks to avoid being ripped off again!

However, we must say that the staff were nothing but pleasant to us, extremely helpful and always smiling, such a shame that they were let down by the low-quality of hotel facilities. The 11am check out time also did nothing to brighten our moods and couldn't even be extended by an hour to give us time to properly get ready for the day. We shall not be staying here again.

This is our fifth stay at St David's so we must like it.

Rooms have had a freshen up since we last stayed.

Rooms are clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are starting to look a bit dated but still good.
Breakfast is served in Tides - on the weekends it is a buffet otherwise hot food is cooked to order through the week. Food quality is good.

Staff were efficient and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views over the bay.

Stayed 2 nights for my husbands birthday and we found this hotel comfortable but not sumptuous. We couldn't heat the room to a decent temperature and at times felt cold. The rooms are very plain and without character. Our room service breakfast and paper didn't arrive so we had to rush down to ensure we had breakfast in the restaurant. The spa treatments were lovely but the relaxation room was a converted conference room with curtains around the walls and vents in the ceiling (not very relaxing!). Also the cushions around the spa waiting area badly need renewing. The pool area was fantastic - couldn't fault it. We did have a lovely break but the hotel needs to address certain areas to ensure the maintain their 5 stars.
