“More a 4 star than a 5 star !!!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the St David's for one night and paid for a three course champagne and chocolates on arrival.

on arrival we went to our to the Air con not working and a warm bottle of champagne.
Fortunately these were both rectified with several calls to reception and room service.

We then to the spar to relax and noticed the dirty tiles in the jacuzzi and poolside showers.

Fortunately we the restaurant and had a beautiful meal with fantastic customer service.
However the bar was a disappointment with one person serving hotel guests with a wedding party.
..... frankly ridiculous on a Saturday night!

No chairs or tables on balcony !!

A full length mirror, hairdryer, iron and ironing board do not make you a five star establishment.

Very poor, very disappointing experience and to top it off £15 for the pleasure of parking where we stayed as residents!!!

If I was the management I would look at the standards set by the Celtic manor which is a proper 5 star hotel and blows you out of the water.

Alex Polizzi the hotel inspector would have a field day at this place.

This is an honest and frank review!!!!!!

Distinctly average, shabby rooms needing upgrades of furniture (cracked and peeling leather sofas/chairs in standard guest bedrooms/suites, balconies with no table or chairs, old fashioned decor, wardrobes with poorly fitting doors), only 30 minutes free wi-fi(!), no mini-bar. Small spa with municipal style ladders to access the pools and sun-faded fake plants. Food in Tempus restaurant looked good, and reasonably-priced if dining a la carte, but the expensive food served for celebration dinner had obviously been kept hanging around for a while (mashed potato had a hard crust on top, green beans had shrivelled, risotto was inedible, all meat had been shredded and pressed into a circular mould covered with thick dark gravy). I would not recommend this hotel for a family celebration requiring the services of an event planner (i.e above 6-10 people) because, quite frankly, after organising our daughter's wedding six months ago, at an English hotel which was only rated 4*, but exceeded our expectations on every level (see my previous review and that of many other people, I might add), I would suggest that this hotel needed a review of its rating if its ability to hold successful functions were taken into consideration ...

Room Tip: I would not stay here again, but rooms on the south side higher up are superior ... corner suites ha...

St David's Hotel is an interesting building in a great location. The huge foyer is grand and a mighty introduction to the beautiful views from our rooms. The rooms are large and well appointed. The service was courteous, friendly and, even at 2.30am when we checked in, the staff had a smile and a sense of humour! Something to consider: free , unlimited wifi would be very much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly would recommend the experience to visitors to South Wales.

Parking 15 pounds, Wifi 12 pounds, No Mini Bar / Fridge, No help with bags, Room standard average and housekeeping standard not up to scratch. Pictures of evening bed turndown attached...

Better places and services around for better value depending on what you want...

Official complaint made via hotel web site.

Disappointing for the price paid.

Excellent Views, Room very Good Spacious, but as we visited on a very Warm Day was a little disappointed that our Room did not have any Air Conditioning ??
The Room Type was Deluxe King Double Room.
The Hotel was a little bit of a trek from the main Bay area.

Lady very helpful on arrival although she forgot to book our table for dinner. Staff were great but tend to overdo the "madam" and "sir" bit. Great view but room showing signs of wear and tear, cracked tiles, stained carpet, plus hair on the bathroom floor. Quality of food good but too much salt. Also, ordered latte and cappucino at breakfast and was charged almost £8 on top of breakfast charge. To add insult to injury the coffee, whether, filter, cappucino,or lattte was one of the worst I've ever had! Would like to open windows for air but only air con option, door doesn't stay open (used a menu to prop it open) Have stayed in many different rated hotels in a few different places and found this one just about a four star (the view made it) Room reasonably priced but food very overpriced!

Room Tip: Only choose a sea view with this hotel it is not worth the money if you do not have one!

We used this hotel as a base for my partner and I and our six week old baby to visit Cardiff family and friends. The staff were very helpful and polite throughout. The rooms was spacious and well furnished albeit in a rather Spartan style. The bathroom was adequate but like the rest of the hotel is starting to show its age.
To suggest that this is a five star hotel is extreme, I would rate it as a just adequate four star and no better. We paid for breakfast which is advertised was until 10.30 but arriving just before ten everything was being cleared away and we had to order food which was poor quality and seemed to be the dried remnants of the buffet. The next day we were earlier and the food was fresher, but still not very good quality, and well shorty of a five star hotel.
Our overall impression is one of a fifteen year old hotel falling into a gradual decline. Almost every surface could do with a repaint and the entire hotel needs a general freshen up.
The car park is simply too small and despite being charged £15 per day there is no guarantee of a space.
Overall impression is of nice helpful staff doing their best in an environment of cuts and lack of investment.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the bay and the views are spectacular. Recommend that side and as high as possib...
