We went here for a wedding which was beautiful overlooking the bay. The food was amazing. But drinks very expensive.
We stayed the night here and our room was lovely and clean. Bed very comfortable. We then used the spa in the morning after which I was quite disappointed as it looked a lot more run down since the last time I went which was 2 year ago. The tiles were dirty and there was a whole in the roof over the pool.

But overall a lovely wedding and would still stay here but not pay prices they ask for. We went through bookin.com and a lot cheaper

Stayed: August 2014

Just returned from an over night stay with the husband. Polite reception staff. Room was good- more than comfortable. We visited the pool/sauna - it was looking very tired, rusty fittings, naff plastic palm trees and holes in the ceiling. Carpets in the corridors were stained also. Breakfast was tasty and hot. Overall - it was a pleasant stay, but in its current condition - 3 star at best. Disappointing to be honest.

Room Tip: A higher floor will guarantee an great panoramic view

We have stayed in a lot of 5* hotels across Europe and the US and this one clearly doesn't deserve its 5*.

Re the ROOM - The room was dated and so was the bathroom. I would expect such a standard in a 3* hotel, not a 5*. Room comprised two old scratched reclining armchair. There was no mini bar. Desk was scratched. Water was dropping from the bidet's tap.
Re the FOOD: breakfast was very average, not much choice was available (e.g. only 3 different sorts of cheese and charcuteries in a sole plate available for selection) which again was disappointing in comparison to what we are used to for such a price tag.
Re the SERVICE: We were very surprised to notice that our son's bed wasn't done after the 1st night. To add to this, the cot bed was of very poor quality, not stable at all and very bouncy (glad our son did not move a lot)...Staff was polite but not really smiley and welcoming, especially at reception.

Our experience: the hotel had a false fire alarm alert when we staged (TWICE! at 10.30pm). Evacuation procedure was extremely chaotic. No information was given, especially after the 1st fire alarm. It seems that only those sitting in the restaurant were told that there was no need to evacuate. All the others who were in their bedrooms had to go down the stairs then up again, then down again (when the alarm rang for the second time). No assistance was given to my wife who was carrying our baby and nobody was able to communicate with us correctly as we were trying to find each other in the hotel. This was completely unacceptable, particularly the lack of communication and assistance. Can you imagine what would have happened if there had really been a fire!

So to summarize a very disappointing and terrible experience, not worth at all the price we paid.

I was very disappointed to read your review. Although it is not clear whether you brought any issues to our attention at the time to afford us the opportunity to rectify them immediately for you, I apologise on behalf of the the hotel for your disappointment.

An extensive 24 hour room service menu is offered in line with our 5 star status. We also have a number of mini refigerators available on request, subject to availability, as per the Guest Directory.

I note your concern in relation to the inconvenience of the fire alarm activation however I would stress that it is imperative for the health and safety of our guests, and staff, that the evacuation procedure is implemented in the case of every full alarm. Staff on rota have specific robust procedures to follow to ensure the safe evacuation of guests and staff as quickly as possible, however I apologise if you were disappointed in this regard, but can assure you that your safety is our primary objective.

Kind regards.

Just returned from an overnight stay at the St David's Hotel. Great location, right on the water with lots of nice restaurants within a few minutes walk. We were allocated a room on the top floor, which had it's own private balcony with great views across the bay. Restaurant was superb, lovely setting and atmosphere. Couldn't fault the staff, service or food at all. The spa was nice and relaxing, with a good choice of treatments to choose from. Personally I wouldn't class the hotel 5 star, as it wasn't any better than the good 4 star hotels we have stayed in, but overall we had a lovely break and will definitely return should we be visiting the area again.

The views from all the rooms are wonderful, the hotel is built to frame the fantastic scenery - Cardiff Bay and great views of the countryside.

The staff were excellent and the rooms were quiet and well appointed. Comfy bed, excellent restaurant and stylish bar. The spa was a treat with all the usual pamper treatments as well as a nice pool, sauna etc.

We will definately be back regularly whilst visiting our daughter at Cardiff University. To be recommended.
