A weekend trip here saw us and the family venturing to Cardiff, we all booked exactly the same rate room. Whereas one couple had your standard hotel room, we had a slightly oddly shaped room which had a window looking on to the inside of the hotel - with no outside light whatsoever.

Not only this, our window was RIGHT next to the glass elevator shaft - so anyone getting out on our floor could get a good look in to our room at the same time! Needless to say we drew the net part of the curtains, resulting in even less light than before.

I was surprised that we weren't warned about the window/layout of this room, it seemed the equivalent of booking a theatre seat with a limited view...

Otherwise the rest of the room was fairly good, apart from a vent in the bathroom which seemed to spontaneously open on it's own - seemed like they needed to get the handyman in...

As for the hotel, generally it was very clean with a fantastic pool and gym. Breakfast was excellent, with a choice of almost anything you fancy for breakfast! The bar was also nice, if extremely expensive.

The staff were also extremely friendly - apart from one particular barman. I went to order drinks with my partner, requested to charge it to the room and was looked upon with mild contempt as he stated he would need several items of proof that I was staying in the hotel. Perhaps it had something to do with my comfortable converse trainers and jeans wearing attire, in the end I actually had to get my father to provide his signature and original booking form to prove we were staying there!!! Ridiculous. Although - I must point out that the other bar staff were absolutely lovely, it was just this one arrogant/judgemental barman who obviously assumed we couldn't afford to drink there.

Room Tip: Check that you have an external facing room

Travelled for a weekend with disabled mother in law, husband and three year old. From pre booking through the stay to departure, staff couldn't have done more to make us feel valued and welcome without ever being fussy or officious. Jana in the restaurant made our three year old feel like a princess. Every need was met, facilities were reasonably well maintained, relaxed and accessible , food delicious, drinks reasonably priced. only minor quibble is some street noise, which was to be expected from a lower floor of a hotel in a busy city.

Not been here for about 8 years and decided to stop en route to Ireland. Nice big room with spacious bathroom on exec floor with walk in shower for him and bath for me-Crabtree & Evelyn La Source very nice.
Best bit was view from exec lounge watched sunset over the hills and castle while enjoying the comp drinks and snacks. Very civilised. Went out to eat at Jamies Italian though remembered hotelresturant was good on previous visit.
Had a huge afternoon tea and watched a rugby side cluttering up the place in their shorts and tops (they were even in the undies dept in M and S later LOL.) I was told that all the visitors teams stay here but the Samoans and All Blacks take up more space. All staff helpful, friendly and cheerful I found that in most of the shops too so clearly it is a local trait. Will return sooner this time. Did not use the spa.gym or pool but looked OK.

Came for the Green Party Conferance which was excellent.
The hotel did us both proud. I brought a disabled lady and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
They catered for my vegan diet and the chef was extremely pleasant.
the Doorman helped us with all our journeys and parked our car.Super place to be and we will return.

We stayed at the Cardiff Hilton for one night when the Wales v England rugby was on in August 2011.

The good things first:
• We arrived at 10.15am. The reception area was busy with loads of people turning up very early but there weren’t any queues because they had got loads of staff working the desk. By 11am, we had a room. Brilliant. Our luggage had even been taken there before we got to it. Impressive
• We had a room on the 4th floor with a castle view. I was a little bit concerned because of all the noise comments I’d read. It wasn’t too bad. It’s a city centre hotel – there is going to be noise… the good thing about it is that you can’t hear any bar music, the people on the street are walking past and not standing under the window and we didn’t hear any corridor noise at all.
• The room was big and comfy – far better than many similar hotels
• Finally, this is what made it a stand out property. After the match, we got back to the hotel at about 7pm. There were a lot of people in the Lobby Bar and in the Steam Bar. All very civil, I’d guess it was mainly residents, but it was busy. We wanted to eat, but the Lobby Bar didn’t seem to be doing any food and the Steam Bar was just offering fish & chips. A buffet was going in the restaurant. We debated the options in the lobby and had just about decided to go to the very nice Browns right opposite the hotel when a lady came up and asked if she could help? She didn’t have a badge on, but seemed ‘official’. We said we were looking for some bar type food and she said, ‘no problem. Have a seat in the Steam Bar’. We did and she sorted it all out. Burgers and club sandwiches all round. Four very happy people! We’re still not sure who she was, but she could have been a GM/senior manager.
• The rugby weekends must be very hard work for all the hotels. This one seemed really switched on and staffed up for the crowds. No queues at check-out, very good.

Not so great:
• £17 on the car parking is steep considering where it is and compared to the other hotels, but it is convenient and it works ok. We got the car back within about 15 mins of asking for it. The alternate is to park up in somewhere like Roath (a couple of minutes away) and get a taxi to the hotel. I guess there is a risk element, but it would be much cheaper
• Breakfast was ok on the Sunday. They were mad busy and coped really well, but some of the items could have done with a bit more cooking time
• Lifts – only two to the main lobby. A chore on the Sunday morning with everyone trying to leave as one full lift after another stopped on each floor.

Stuff they could fix easily:
• The Hilton website should have more information about the car park process. Just a bit more on the basics like where to park it outside, a good access map (beware the bus lanes) and how it all works.

Like an awful lot of people, we stayed here for the Wales England game. Fortunately the hotel was far better than the game!! There were a lot of famous faces from the world of rugby staying at the Hilton too. All staff were helpful and polite. Our room was large, and had an almost equally as large bathroom. Both were very clean. We found the kingsize bed to be probably the most comfortable hotel we have slept in. The rate was good (at the time of booking, there was a very favourable deal on. I think this was changed when the match was advertised!) My only negative for our whole stay was the air conditioning. We stayed in room 238 which was stuffy and stifling and several degrees warmer than 239, whose aircon was on exactly the same settings. If we could be guaranteed a cooler room, we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the hotel in August. It's in a very central location, easy walking distance to most places. The hotel itself overlooks Cardiff Castle. Hotel has valet parking which is £17 per day which in my opinion is excessive. We booked a double room and were upgraded to a spacious Junior Suite. The only problem that we had with the room was that the shower control broke. Staff were very helpful and maintenance rectified the problem quite quickly. We had access to the Executive lounge( as hubby has Hilton Honours Gold card) during our stay which has lovely vews of Cardiff Castle. The hotel is only a minutes walk into the main shopping area. We used the hotel pool and gym during our stay which were more than adequate and very clean. The hotel's Razzi restaurant serves delicious food too. Although there are many good restaurants nearby. All in all we had a lovely visit and would not thik twice about returning. Special mention must go to Wendy who works in the Executive lounge who in my opinion is a true asset to the hotel.

Room Tip: Book an executive room to get access to the Executive lounge which gives you daily snacks, breakfast...
