We got a really good deal on this hotel via expedia and we were staying for two nights. The location was great for a shopping trip but at night time there is very little excitement in the vicinity after 11pm. The bedroom was gorgeous but the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful and that has put me off returning

We have stayed in a few hotels in Cardiff but I I can't fault the Hilton for quality, location and overall service. We had booked an Exec room through the Hilton site, but since we had just joined the Honours scheme we received an upgrade to a Junior Suite. For 65/night inc breakfast.

We have a young daughter, so we were given a corner room on the 4th (with a large sofa-bed), including use of the Exec lounge which has a great view of the park civic buildings, drinks, laid-back environment etc.

In short, the hotel is well located (side of the high street, opposite the park), very modern and clean but the best part was the room. Huge L-shape, lots of space with a soft King bed, large bathroom with bath and walk-in shower, LCD tv, mini bar, safe and 3 extensive windows.

In short, not much to detract from our stay; with some of the other marginal reviews I read on TripAdvisor about the Park Plaza etc., I wouldn't think twice about staying here again.

Good things:
. location: high street close, easy to find next to the ring road, close to the park and castle, close to Henry's (fave for cocktails)
. modern and clean, lovelly rooms, friendly staff (mostly)
. restaurant quality (hot breakfast range a little limited though)
. an exceptional place if you get a good deal on rates - if not, it is still worth the money!

Not so good things:
. parking - there is none, but valet is 15 pounds/day which is fine. Its a city centre hotel, so not unreasonable
. restaurant staff generally looked miserable - I don't work there, I was a guest so do I really mind?

I booked this hotel through the Hilton site as they were advertising a january sale with rooms up to 50 per cent off. I wasn't expecting much at a sale rate but boy was i surprised when I entered the room.It was a small suite on the 5th floor with views to the university and courthouse.A huge bathroom with separate shower and 2 flatscreen tv's.The Hilton is right next to the main shopping district and also cardiff castle.A buffet breakfast was also included in the price and it was really good with a hot and cold buffet bar and bread and sweet bat too-try the welsh cakes-the Hilton's are the best.I didn't use the pool or gym but they looked clean .The concierge was especially nice -helped us find a great chinese restuarant! I will definately come back!

Neither a stranger to Cardiff nor the hotels there, I have stayed in the Hilton before. The Cardiff Hilton is far better than any other Hilton I have stayed in in the UK and the best hotel I have stayed in in Cardiff.

It's not the hippest but it's certainly the most comfortable and unlike other hotels in the area they don't charge extra for some cheese in your omelette.

Sadly the pool is in need of some TLC to make it shine.

The executive lounge is a nice feature that seems overused over weekends.

I stayed at this hotel on 17 January for a night and that was enough. The check-in was a disater, initially given a twin instead of a double and then allocated a disabled room and eventually given the correct room which is split from the smoking section by a corridor. You can imagine the stench of smoke! Not 5* Having said that this wasnt our main concern as we both were not overly concerned about the room. However the carpets were stained, scratches everywhere. The pool and gym is a disgrace, filthy changing area with hair and visable dirt everywhere, there are also exposed elements in the steam room which look slightly alarming. I was incredibly dissapointed with the attitude of staff and the standards. It does not come close to the Hilton Tower Bridge which is 4* and superb!! Would avoid for anything near £100, will try St Davids Spa next time!

My husband and I have stayed at the Hilton on a few occasions over the past year, the most recent stay being 24 Dec 08.

We have stayed in Executive rooms and Junior suites (and even had a free upgrade to the Presidential Suite on my husband's 40th birthday) mainly for the access to the Executive lounge, with it's great views over Cardiff Castle. These rooms are mostly on the 7th floor, so have great views. You can also eat breakfast in the lounge (it's a more limited menu), avoiding the queues we have seen for the main dining room.

We have always found the staff to be polite and helpful. We've never eaten in the restaurant, but have always enjoyed the food from room service.

The beds have been incredibly comfortable in all of the rooms and we've always had a great night's sleep.

This is a large, corporate hotel, so if you're after the more personal touches you get in smaller, boutique hotels, this isn't the hotel for you. For a peaceful break away from home, set right in the centre of town, it's great. As I said, we've stayed a few times and would happily stay again.
