“Hasn't changed in over forty years.”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

I used to visit this market, a highlight of holidays in Cardiff, when I was a kid. It really hasn't changed much, apart from less pet stalls on the first floor, no cigarette smoke, and no cloying aroma of strong tea with condensed milk.
This place is a traditional treat for the eyes and senses, from the long established fishmongers at the main entrance (we had excellent cockles and mussels there, and very good laver), to the cheese stalls ripe with the best of Wales and England, bakeries with, considerately, Welsh cakes for diabetics, a great place to grab a snack and wander around a market that has escaped the claws of heartless developers. Full of character.

“Great choice”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

I love visiting indoor markets, we don't have any near where I live. Cardiff Market had a great choice off food, clothes, pet stalls and gifts.

“Disappointment”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

I have been to markets in many, many cities (Avignon, Lucerne, Edinburgh, Paris, London, all over the US) and this was my least favorite of all of them. The market is indoor and quite damp, and there are many fish and meat vendors so it smells pretty awful. More importantly, the goods sold there are sub-par. The fruit and vegetables I had were tasteless and not fresh. I had a welsh cake from Bakestone which was warm and quite good, but other than that I would absolutely skip this place.

“Old fashioned specialty stalls”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 via mobile

This market almost feels like a railway station. The meat and produce are downstairs and showcase excellent foods. As you wander inside there are toy stores, clothings, leather goods, old fashioned sweets and candy, herbal stall,a fabric stand, and all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. The fruitier shouts out as I imagine they did in Dicken's time and add to the atmosphere. go upstairs and view from above. see the central clock and say hello to the pets in the pet stall. Fun just to wander through and welcome change from the modern mall across the way.
