We enjoyed our one night stay here. The staff were all consistently friendly and polite and accommodating, for example enabling us to check out a bit later on Sunday. The hotel building is made up of 2 large Victorian town houses, very attractive with many retained period features. Our room was at the top of the house. It faced the front (there was a little road noise, but not too intrusive) and was very spacious. The room was very clean, even the very pale carpet was unmarked. It's clear that there is a legacy of 1970s style furniture and fittings through the rooms (we saw 2 others, both of different styles and sizes), however the owners have cleverly included some attractive modern fabrics, cushions etc. which overall means that there is still a positive effect. I respectfully suggest that it might be time to begin a more substantive updating of fittings to really keep ahead of the pack, particularly in relation to the bathrooms, which were 'okay' being rather dated (although absolutely immaculately clean). As most other reviewers have said, the breakfast really was outstanding - better than when we last stayed in Cardiff at the 5* St David's hotel at more than double the cost! The small bar area at the back of the hotel was comfy and the lounge area was very elegant. It made a lovely change to stay somewhere that's such an antidote to the usual chains. It could be classed top end B & B in style, rather than hotel. I would recommend staying here and will do so again. Great value for money too, £45 per person including that fabulous breakfast.

Spent 3 nights here with friends for the rugby in February. We only booked a few weeks before and most of the large hotels were full or the prices were sky high. After a bit of searching the internet we found this lovely place which was closer to the centre than we thought, only a 10 min stroll through the park and along the river.
Set in a nice area it is two victorian houses knocked together, it has lots of original features and has been sympathetically decorated to keep the feel of an old victorian house.
Everything was really clean and rooms were very comfortable, ours was not large but adequate for a few days but I know they have bigger rooms available. The rooms were well designed and had everything you need for a stay away.
Although they were full that weekend the place was really quiet, a little bit of noise from the street outside but that is to be expected in a city centre.
The staff were very helpfull, nothing was too much trouble and they even set out breakfast early for us on the monday when we had an early start to get to the airport.
Breakfast was lovely with a good choice of hot and cold dishes, they even had yummy welsh cakes every morning!
I would certainly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Cardiff.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back would be quieter, our room was at the very top so there were quite a few stairs to climb, ok for us but could be a problem for less able or older people. I know from their literature that they have a large room with 4 poster and a self containes suite with 2 bedrooms

My husband and I stayed at the Lincoln House Hotel for 11 days during the 2011/2012 Christmas and New Year's holidays while visiting our daughter, a student at Cardiff University. We were very pleased with the room, the staff, and the breakfasts. We especially want to commend David and Brendan for their cheerfulness, friendliness and assistance in travel needs during our stay. Brendan prepared a wonderful and filling breakfast-to-go since our early flight home required us to leave the hotel at 3:00 am. Thank you Brendan, the breakfast lasted us through the Amsterdam airport even after our flight from there was delayed! David helped us maneuver the train and bus schedules, gave suggestions about restaurants and made numerous phone calls to find us a last-minute restaurant booking for 5 persons, including two vegetarians, on New Year's Day in City Centre! His help with the train schedule to Abergavenny was invaluable!

Our daughter will be in Cardiff for at least another year and we look forward to staying at the Lincoln House Hotel again.

Room Tip: Cathedral Road is a very busy street, but we had no problem with noise.

It is excellent to hear that you were very pleased with your room, staff and breakfasts.

David and Brendan are both very valuable members of staff and nothing is too much trouble. I am sure they are both happy to hear your lovely comments.

We look forward to welcoming you again in December.

Many Thanks for your review.

We stayed here over New Year 2011 and like many others chose the hotel partly because of the Internet reviews and the website. The experience over delivered.

The hotel has the atmosphere of a boutique hotel but the comfort and friendliness of your own home. We elected to spend more time in the hotel than we originally planned because the rooms were so pleasant and the service good.

Particular credit to David, who looked after Reception and Breakfast during our stay. He was professional but friendly, cheery and clearly had a passion for both the hotel and his job. The Laverbread breakfast is also worthy of a mention. And housekeeping kept the whole hotel clean.

I’d return to Lincoln House without a doubt.

Room Tip: Cathedral Road is a busy road but we didn't experience any traffic noise. The bathroom had been recently refurbished in the room with the four poster.

What a delight to hear that we over delivered! I do hope you had a good New Year's Eve!

I am very happy you were pleased with your room and service provided, in particular David, who is as you say a credit to us here at the Lincoln House, a very hard worker indeed.

Laverbread is a bit like marmite, you either like it or you don't. I love it! But I can see it might be an acquired taste.

We have a fantastic house-keeping team here which is managed by David.

Many Thanks for your review and such lovely comments.

We booked this hotel based upon other reviews and had a reasonable stay here.

First thing first, this is a beautiful building that has been refurbished and the quality of the carpets, wall papers, etc is second to none. The hotel is very clean and any guest will not find fault with the kind and generous staff.

The reasons for the average score are:

1. The price was comparable with a boutique hotel - this is not a boutique hotel though, this is more of a B&B hybrid with a Hotel

2. The bed was not really that comfortable. Advertised as a king room, the bed was actually two singles mattresses on a larger ensemble (not uncommon in European hotels). Problem was the mattresses were not the same firmness and therefore uncomfortable when you spanned across them. The pillows were not comfortable either.

3. The breakfast was something that the Lincoln House Hotel prided itself upon, we found it generous in portion but somewhat bland and tasteless.

The Lincoln House Hotel is a solid choice and not somewhere I could fault - it just didn't live up to the expectations from the previous reviews. There are countless other hotels and guest house on Cathedral Road (closer to the city) that we would consider if returning to Cardiff.

It is very unfortunate to hear you found your stay not memorable.

I am pleased to learn you found our staff to be kind and generous.

Yes we are not a boutique hotel and do not advertise ourselves as one. We are a high standard family run, 3 star bed and breakfast.

I am sorry to hear you were unhappy with your super-king size bed, almost 95% of our beds in the hotel are brand new. It is a shame you did not tell us whilst you were staying here and we may have been able to change your room for you so that you were more comfortable during your stay.

Our breakfasts are something that we pride ourselves on and everyone comments on in every review. We have a very high standard with all our produce and how it is cooked fresh to order. Again it is a shame you did not mention this whilst here, our staff would have been more than happy to assist you in anyway possible.

It is a great shame to hear that you would reccommend others to go to another hotel on Cathedral Road.

We can only hope that you will try the Lincoln House again in the future and have a pleasant stay with us.

Thank you for the feedback.
