“Excellent location...”
Reviewed 31 January 2014

We stayed at the Marriott in Cardiff for a night during the Rugby league World Cup & picked the hotel due to its location which didn't disappoint. It's literally right in the centre, everything that Cardiff has to offer from shops, bars & restaurants are practically on the doorstep and it's within a 5-10min walk of the Millennium Stadium.
The hotel itself is typically Marriott as you'd expect. The service is excellent, the recreational areas have a lot to offer & although a little on the small side, the rooms are clean, comfortable & have everything you'd need for a short stay. There's also parking on site which is an added bonus in a city centre, from what I can remember it's quite reasonably priced at around £10 per night.
I don't know if it's a good or bad point but I find with chain hotels that once inside you could be anywhere in the world, the decor, layout, styling & service is pretty generic no matter which Marriott you visit. Having said that, I'd still recommend the Marriott for a stay in Cardiff, the hotel is sufficient & the location is excellent.

We used the Cardiff Marriott for a conference on 28th and 29th January and we were very pleased with the event and the hotel overall. The hotel is very central, within sight of the train station, next to John Lewis and the main shopping area, not to mention some very nice bars and restaurants. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the meals in particular excellent. The staff at the hotel - in particular the conference staff - were consistently helpful, responding to our requests quickly and without complaint.

The only problems we experienced were:
(i) some of the large rooms we used for meetings were cold and did not heat up despite the efforts of staff. However, the main room was comfortable throughout;
(ii) the wifi was not easy to set up and we had to negotiate for free access for our guests, something which is normally provided as standard these days.

Other than these minor issues, we were very happy with all other aspects of the hotel, the conference and the stay. I would recommend this venue for your event and your stay in Cardiff and I would definitely consider it myself for future visits to Cardiff. Thanks to all concerned for their efforts.

(Forgot to mention: great sausages for breakfast and locally sourced food for all meals!)

The best thing was it was central for the Theatre and the nightlife. Bedrooms very small but clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful and breakfast more than enough choice on offer...We spent most of our time out and about as i love visiting Cardiff. Adequate for what we wanted for this particular weekend.

I have stayed here before and nothing changes its consistant with clean rooms and professional staff
The bar area is relaxing and welcoming and staff ate friendly
The rooms in the Marriott are spacious compared to others in the area
The reception staff would always say good evening as u passed reception that showing good levels of service to the guests
There are cheaper hotels in the area that are similar but you pay for the location
I do agree with many that the car parking charge of 15 is a bit much this should be similar to list other hotels I think
I would return to this hotel if I found a good offer on the web
There is free Internet in the bar area but its very expensive in the rooms similar to the holiday inn but there are many hotels that offer this for free a d I do think that all hotels should now offer free Internet

Myself and my husband stayed here for 2 nights back in December and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and the facilities that it had to offer.

We had breakfast both mornings which was adequate, but would suggest more variety perhaps.

The staff were all very pleasant and the room we had which was a double was very spacious and warming on arrival.

All in all I would recommend to friends.

I chose this hotel for its location close to Cardiff Central station. It's a short walk away with plenty of bars restaurants and shops near by. My room was clean and comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. I suspect low floor rooms may get some noise at weekends but that wasn't a problem mid week.
Breakfast was self service but quick and efficient to get seated and the food was well stocked and hot.
Staff on the front desk were welcoming on arrival and friendly and efficient on check out. For a mid week work stay it was ideal.

This is not a cheap hotel so it's fair to expect a good experience.

First the good points. Pleasant and efficient reception staff, nice spacious and clean rooms and a large comfortable bed.

The negative was a very very poor breakfast. The normal mass produced chain buffet can at least be adequate. This wasn't. Not a great choice. The cooked breakfast was greasy, overcooked and not very warm. The restaurant staff were also fairly aloof.

I would very likely stay again but definitely not book for breakfast.
