“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2010

We booked this hotel at the very last minute as we were visiting Swansea University the next day. We were late arriving and were greeted with a very warm welcome and a lovely spacious bedroom overlooking the late. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. We didn't have breakfast as left early. The staff we met were extremely helpful and polite. Keep up the good work.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time in reviewing our hotel following your recent stay. I was delighted you enjoyed your time with us.

We pride ourselves on our fantastic team here and receive a large number of positive comments regarding them. I have of course passed on you extremely pleasant comments to the team to ensure that they maintain this focus on our guests.

I am pleased that the room and view over our lake also added to the enjoyment of your stay. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to look after you again in the future and possibly demonstrate our excellent food offerings as well.

Thank you again for your review. If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kindest regards

We stayed with our 5 yeivedr old on the dine with show night. from the moment we arrived our daughter was welcomed (this is so opposite to most of our experiences e.g the Novotel in Cardiff) the receptionist bent over backwards to accomodate us we hen we explained that the show food was a little late for a 5 year old. We ate our food at the bar which the waiter made sure we had asap. the lovely entertainment manager even came to get us for the show and made sure we had a seat right by the door so we could leave to take our daughter to bed. sadly, we could not stay for the whole event( past her bed time) but it was superb!!!! It is so refreshing to stay at a hotel that makes you feel welcome and just not walking cash!!! Thankyou!!!

We went to this hotel for our wedding anniversary and booked through TravelZoo as a thatre break deal. We live in Haverfordwest so It's the right side of Cardiff for us. It's easy to find and there are some shops nearby (Tesco 24hrs and the biggest M&S we have ever seen!).
From start to finish the staff were absolutely fantastic. Utterly polite, nothing too much troulbe, pleasant and willing to partake in light hearted banter with us even when they were stretched to the limit. The theatre experience was not West End but it was great for a clap and singalong when the wine gets flowing!.
We had a view over the lake and a big comfy bed (two singles pushed together but they didn't fall apart, even with us two bouncing on them all weekend ;) ) with a bath in the en-suite and tons of hot water. The room is clean and tidy.
There is a pool with a sauna and excellent gym facilities which are free.
the restaurant is great and it's a buffet style breakfast with proper sausage and bacon and help yourself - right up my alley!.
I have read some of the other reviews that slate this hotel. I can only assume these people are just born whingers who have to have absolutely everything perfect for £40 a night!. I read one that said they had sirens nearby, really!, in a big city there are sirens!. I suggest they go to Loch Ness instead.
To top it all, they had the rugby six nations on and we stuffed the Welsh. WOHOO.

To sum up:

For £75 a night we had D B&B, a show, gym, shops nearby, nice room (what are the whingers on about with all this "can't walk on the carpet" crap - bless), great staff and we stuffed the Welsh (needed to mention that again).

We'll be back.

Steve & Kaz.

We had a family wedding at this hotel, having selected it after visiting many alternatives. It is enough just to say that the staff were absolutely first class. The assistance throughout was commendable. One sees negative comments so often, if I could state one, I would put it here now. I can't, because there wasn't a complaint from any one of the 120 guests. The evening function was as good and well managed by the hotel. Nuff said!

Having stayed at the hotel previously, we can recommend it every time. Just outside the city, 10 minute drive comfortable to city centre. 5 minutes from Junc.33 on M4. Good leisure facilities. Good spacious rooms and comfortable. Well done Copthorne.

Dear Guest

Thank you for sparing the time in reviewing our hotel. I was delighted you had such an enjoyable stay.

I was extremely pleased that the wedding went well and that the event was memorable for all the right reasons. We have some excellent facilities for weddings especially in the Summer and enjoy looking after our local guests.

I will of course pass your comments onto our team as recognition of this sort is invaluable in developing the team.

We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

We stayed in this hotel for the pure reason all the other hotels in Cardiff were fully booked. However when we arrived it was really nice. Although the hotel is out of the city centre its surrounded by shops such as McDonalds and Tesco.. etc etc.

The room was perfect, very spacious and had the best view over the lake!

The only complaint i would have is that because we payed by cash for some reason we couldnt watch pay-to-view films on the T.V which was abit of a dissapointment.

Apart from that i really enjoyed my stay :)

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review of our hotel. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay.

The views from the lake are lovely and perhaps we can welcome you back when the weather improves so you can really take advantage of the setting.

Unfortunately when paying cash on rooms the systems locks the pay movies to ensure charges are not applied to the room. If you stay again please let us know and we will ensure this is rectified.

Thank you again for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

With Warmest regards

David

We have stayed her a few times over the last few years. When you have a dog in tow a good hotel that accepts them is a godsend. And that is what the Copthorne is. If you are canny you can get good internet bargains that don't cost you an earth. The location is perfect for all sorts of activities. The staff are always tres friendly and smiley - whether at reception or the bar. We are not gym types so can't comment on that aspect of the hotel.
Jack - our westie - seems to love the walks around the lake - I even spotted a crane this trip.
The bed is superb - massive and so relaxing!

We stayed here, to go into Cardiff to watch the Wales V Argentina game.

The hotel was full, but like what other people have said you would never have guessed. We had a ground floor room facing the car park. The hotel is very clean, spacious with lots of atmosphere. I don’t know whether they do it on every match day to the Millennium Stadium, but they did offer a shuttle bus from the hotel to the stadium then back. Return was £6. Cardiff is about 15mins away so the hotel is perfect for a spot of shopping in town. For a night out, a taxi costs about £12 to get from the hotel to town.

The rooms were big and spacious. The beds were comfy and very inviting!!! In the morning, we didn’t want to get up! Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and lovely fruit juice. We went for a swim on the Sunday morning, though the pool was busy (with club users, saying the had never seen it so busy), there was a steam room, sauna and a nice clean changing room. The gym also looked very good too.

Would definitely recommend to family and friends, in fact we are thinking about going again at some point next year for a treat!
