“great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2013

If you want a good, simple and clean room, reasonable food and very friendly and helpful staff and don't want to pay more than the big "motel" chains then this place really takes some beating.

It has a pleasant lobby area and bar (snacks available), a restaurant (good buffet breakfast) a gym and conference rooms - all spotlessly clean and modern. The rooms are a good size and fairly well equipped with tea-making, TV and a/c, bright bathrooms with large showers (no baths) and comfy beds.
The location on the N side of the city is just off the main A 48 with nothing else nearby, but there is free parking and a taxi to the centre is about £10. I have family nearby and will definitely use this again. Shop around for a deal and this provides really good value for money.

Free parking if using hotel, for 24 hours (length of stay)! GREAT!

Friendly, cheerful staff, who were keen to organise taxi, extra items and suggest places to eat out! (£8 for taxi into centre).

Excellent value! Room was clean and modern with the comfiest pillows ever and a lovely warm quilt! Great shower and stylish bathroom facilities with the travel essentials provided!

£34 from ebookers! VALUE!!

Only downside could be location, but it's hardly far and parking in st.davids is cheap! Can be noisy due to its favouritism with partygoers, but hotel staff have everything under control!

RECOMMEND!

We were visiting Cardiff for a gig at the Motorpoint Arena on a Saturday night. I booked this hotel as we had stayed there years ago when it was a Moat House and I got a very good B and B rate on Travel Republic - about £30 cheaper than the hotel`s website. In the event Radisson had a special offer in Jan. and I could have saved a few pounds more if I`d been prepared to book very late.
However we arrived at the hotel around 1ish on a freezing afternoon - if the gig had been on Fri. we wouldn`t have made it due to snow. Our check in was quick and easy even tho` we were early.
It is obvious Radisson have spent money refurbishing the hotel as the public areas are bright and clean. Our room was also brightly furnished with a red, white and blue colour scheme.
A few small items make this a budget hotel rather than 4 star eg no face flannels, hanging rails rather than a wardrobe, a nice big bed but an undersized duvet.
Having said that the room was a good size, clean and comfortable and generally well equipped with everything working.
We were at the back of the building facing the A48. Because of the weather there wasn`t much traffic but on another day the traffic would be intrusive so if you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the front.
Our rate included breakfast which was the usual buffet style. There was a good selection of hot and cold dishes to choose from . The staff seemed to struggle a bit with replenishing items even though the restaurant wasn`t very busy. However any requests were promptly and politely dealt with.
The hotel is about a 15min drive from the city centre but rates are cheaper and parking is free.
Overall , depending on the rate you get, this is a good choice hotel for visiting Cardiff and the surrounding area with easy access to the M4 and the city

Room Tip: Get a room at the front if you are a light sleeper

OK, you're not in the city centre. That's the first thing. Sometimes it feels like one of those French Formula 1, Ibis, Buffalo Grill sites.......it's on a roundabout and there's nowhere really to go in the evening.

However, it that isn;t a problem - then the food, the accommodation, the facilities are all excellent.

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally good.

We stayed here on New Year's Eve basically because we had a very good deal - £35 with breakfast. The hotel is situated just on the outskirts of Cardiff and cost us £12 to get into Cardiff city center. I believe the normal cost is £9 but because it was New Year's Eve they added £3.
We didn't expect the quality of the rooms. Everything was great from the bed, bathroom, TV etc.
Parking wasn't a problem and the staff were very helpful. We went into Cardiff for the night and came back at 3am. We had a warm welcome from the night porter and went straight to bed.
The breakfast in the morning was superb ... plenty of variety and quantity.
I would certainly stay here again and recommend the hotel to others

arrived to a very walm welcome from the reception staff who i understand was the night manager.he was very polite and helpful and quickly gave us details our 2 rooms booked for a 1 night stay.rooms were very large and immaculately clean.beds were very comfortable and rooms had tv and tea/coffee making facilities.had a very good nights sleep and were amazed at the vast selection on offer for breakfast which included continental, cereal and full english.the dining area was very clean and staff were pleasant and helpful nothing too much problem.the lounge area had recently had new furniture the only issue was head-butting the low level lamp shades.overall an excellent stay and would recommend to anyone visiting cardiff.

I haven't been in a nicer hotel than this. Different and with more character, but not any "better".
My room overlooked the main road, but the location of this hotel will rule out any decent views. Still, it beats an office block!
My room was large with a nice modern bathroom. The TV was modern but a cheap model, so there was no way I was going to pay extra to watch a movie - why do hotels insist on using such awful TV's! Am I the only one who cares? Maybe...
Still, as a base for a short stay either on business or pleasure I guess you won't regret staying here.
Staff were friendly and helpful, with areas where you can sit, relax and enjoy a drink (or four!).
