I stayed in 2 different rooms , both looked like budget rooms.

The entrance to the hotel is grand and very nice.

The service in my experience was poor when compared to other hotels I have stayed in recently., The food was low quality but still comes with a 4 star hotel price tag. I would say the kitchen must be on a serious budget, the meat was especially bad.

I stayed on business , I don't know how much my company paid but I would not pay more than £50 per night . This would be a fair price for the rooms.

We stayed at the Angel on Saturday night as we were attending a christmas party at the millennium stadium which is just around the corner from the hotel! It was ideal we could go out have a few drinks and not worry about getting lost!

Reception area is stunning with the christmas decorations and received a really warm welcome when we checked in. The manager on reception Samuel was really friendly (reem too) and gave us a upgrade. The room was fine, if we were staying longer perhaps we would ask for a bigger room but was ok for one night.

Breakfast was busy the following morning but items were replaced quickly and the breakfast staff were friendly. When we checkedout reception let us store our bags for the day so we could go christmas shopping needless to say we came back with more bags than we arrived with!

Will definatly we back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This is a lovely Victorian hotel with grand reception. There were 3 of us staying and we had very different rooms. One with castle views was small but beautifully decorated in modern style. One was quiet overlooking the car park, large but bijou bathroom again super decor. The third was not so newly renovated, but was huge and quiet.
It was worth asking for quiet rooms as the front rooms are very noisy due to busy road. I used ear plugs as generator to rear is turned on early!
Breakfast is generous with specials if you ask and the food was delicious. The highlight was definitely the fabulous Mike who kept us entertained with stories and wowed with his professional service. We are now the Mike fan club!
Also a special mention for Sam on reception who dealt with all our issues with patience and grace. Finally Richard in the restaurant who went above and beyond and served us an amazing meal, I highly recommend the goats cheese starter...yummy.
We will be going back as such amazing service is very unusual and we really appreciated the staffs care.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want, it's worth it

This hotel really shows its age. Despite spacious, sunny (for Cardiff) rooms, friendly service, and a couple of little bonuses (e.g. a free pint from the bar if you fill out the survey) it certainly should not qualify as a 4-star in this day and age.

While the other surfaces in the room were spotless, the carpets throughout the hotel were threadbare and often stained and spotted. The floors in both the rooms and the hallways were creaky and noisy, leading to being woken by the folks on the floor above and the hallway adjacent at all hours of the night. The elevators are excruciatingly slow, and controlled separately, so if you want the first lift up, you need to call the two separately and stand in the middle of the hall hoping for the best. The lift doors are a synecdoche of the hotel - functional but scratched and battered to hell.

It is very well situated, however - 10 minute walk to the central station, 3 to the Millennium Stadium, 3 to Cardiff Castle, and 3 to the head of the High Street.

Very welcoming staff especially at 11pm. The room was spotless, so welcoming and comfortable, just what you need after a busy day working and then a three hour train journey on top of that!
Although this was a business trip, I have stayed here before on a short break to Cardiff. The castle is just across from the hotel and the fabulous shops are walking distance. I would recommend this hotel either as a relaxing break or for a business trip. Pleasant staff and good food, especially breakfast.

Room Tip: Nice view across to the castle from some rooms.

I attended a function at this hotel on 30th November, and though I did not stay there myself booked a room for guests. The function was very efficiently conducted, I would single out a very nice Zimbabwean lady called Nicole for taking very effective charge of this. Food was better than usual in a large catered dinner with good portions. Wines included some nice offerings, but the thing that makes this hotel stand out is the beautifully proportioned rooms which retain much of the grandeur that this hotel must have had when it was first built. I inspected my guests bedroom and it was of a good standard. The lobby or entrance hall of the hotel is it's most impressive feature. Now you could certainly suggest improvements, the furniture is a little cheap looking, and paint could be used more effectively in places, but at least the fundamental structure of the hotel is impressive. The service at the bar can be slow too.
