The Angel is well located and looks resplendent from the outside. We stayed there only to use some spare Diamond Resort points from our timeshare (which we would have lost at the end of the year) and points wise it was very expensive. The Rooms were good but very dated. We had a view of the castle and it must have been one of the best views we have ever had from a hotel room. The carpet had a post war look about it, the bed moved when I sat on it and was not so comfortable as the Premier Inn bed I had slept in the previous night. The tea and coffee facilities were good as was the shower and the free shampoo. The room had an alcove which didn't really make any sense as it was blocked by the flat screen television. The breakfast was superb, but what made it was the 10 different spreads you could put on your toast, fresh croissants, some really nice olive bread and some lovely pastries with sultanas. The hotel was nosiy but this was over the Christmas period. Unfortunately I thought that a £10 charge for overnight parking was a rip off and parked nearby for free. We didn't eat there but the staff were helpful. If you could get a good deal and location is important to you then it's a good hotel but I suspect the price would almost certainly put me off.

Room Tip: Choose one facing the castle, although be prepared for some noise if you have any windows open at ni...

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I was delighted to hear you had an enjoyable stay.

I have taken note of the comments with regards to the appearance of some parts of the hotel, needless to say we will be starting an internal refurbishment programme this year to ensure improevments are made where necessary.

I will look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Fawlty Towers couldn't write a better script for this Hotel when we stayed. But lets start with a positive. Most of the staff were great, doing there best when clearly it was understaffed for the Christmas 4 day break we had booked. One even told me the Hotel had under catered for approx 60 paid guests and every night was a lottery if the Hotel knew who was sitting where for the meals. One Night they run out of Chicken ( very basic ) and there was no replacement.
The Hotel is a little tired but clean, the Beds a bit firm but our room was cleaned every day.
But the main problem for us was having paid for a Christmas 4 day break to include entertainment the Hotel let it's self down. None of the staff knew of any times or locations of any of the events or even dinners ( There are only 2 main eating area's ), the entertainment was poor, the food poor ( Didn't expect to have a buffet Christmas Dinner, which run out of food and trimmings every 5 minutes ), Every meal time ended up with some tables finishing starters while others had been to the buffet twice and some even on desert courses. Only three over worked girls serving, clearing and dealing with endless complaints and problems and the result was table served dishes like starters were always cold and you'd see dishes going back into the kitchen repeatedly only to re-appear two minutes later.
Some of the listed entertainment was cancelled ( Although didn't affect us as we'd gone into Cardiff ) but again it was part of a package ( And not a cheap package ).

Room Tip: Up grade if possible. Rooms 331/332/333 over look a busy junction and are above the reception but ar...

Stayed here for one night in November. Hotel in excellent location for castle and shops. Onsite parking was chargeable but was good value against car parks. Room was amazing, modern furnishings, large wardrobe, safe, trouser press and two flat screen TV's in what I can only describe as a small suite. The bathroom was beautiful, and included L'Occitaine toiletries, robes and slippers. Breakfast was excellent and the restuarant manager was very friendly and helpful. The only slight disappointment was noise from what sounded like airconditioning outside overnight, but would still go back again, especially at the price we paid for this standard of room including breakfast.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights this week. I am a regular business client in Cardiff so decided to try a different hotel to my usual one.

The Angel is in a great location, by Cardiff Castle and a 5min walk from Cardiff Central Rail Station. Has its own car park with a comparable charges for 24hr parking.
From the outside the hotel looks like the usual victorian buildings you see in and around the city.
Staff are very helpful, and always friendly.
The Hotel has a 4 star rating but i must admit it looks more like a 3 star. The carpets in the corridors are tired and worn, some areas dirty (the 70s lift). The whole hotel shouts re paint, re decorate they need some tlc.
The same goes for the decor and furnishings in my room, worn and in need of replacement and modernisation.
No power socket by the bed, a standard double bed (although comfortable) in a room that could easily accommodate a king size.
No room safe for valuables.
A tired bathroom suite with shower curtain over the bath.
Free wifi was available.
The room overlooked the car park so was nice and quiet, try and get one of these if your a lite sleeper, because the other rooms overlook a very very busy cardiff main road, buses and sirens all night.

Would i stay here again? No, you cant get better quality accommodation in Cardiff for the same price and that would include breakfast.

Food was cold sent it back to the kitchen, not just mine but five other colleagues, very poor quality for the money they are charging. Prices for soft drinks were very dear, tables crammed in to get the maximum amount of tables in, would not go there again.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in order to watch Wales v Australia (let's not discuss that!). Doubt if you could find a closer location to the Millenium Stadium, just across the road! Walking distance to the shopping areas and lots of bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is warm and welcoming. Although it may have seen more grandiose times, attempts to update work well and our room was well furnished, clean and spacious. Staff were very courteous and helpful, especially the breakfast manager. Enjoyed Cardiff and would stay at this hotel again.
