We recently stopped in this hotel for the rugby could not fault the location, I would agree with several reviews the hotel is in urgent need of a makeover however the staff are excellent all willing to answer any questions. The breakfast was acceptable however the food is kept warm in dishes that all have very large lids which have to be removed by each person in turn and balanced dangerously on top of the next dish ""accident waiting to happen" apart from this we had a enjoyable stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

I was pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay. Thank you for your feedback with regards to the hot dishes at breakfast, these are a temporary standard until the hot buffet counter is replaced.

Thank you for all your comments.

On the surface the place looks OK but underneath, if you bother to take a closer look, the place is in need of a small fortune spending on it to get it up to modern standards. The place is certainly past it's best. The staff were all very good and helpful, no complaints there. The room was clean, needed a coat of paint on the window frames, better still needed new windows! Grotty windows throughout the hotel. Had a fire alarm early morning and had to go down fire escape staircase - that was an eye opener as to the structural state of the place!!
However we booked in advance and got a good price so can't really complain too much. Don't expect Premier Inn standards and you'll get good value for your money.

Room Tip: Paid extra for premium room which was OK but tired, so don't know what the cheaper rooms would be like.

Thank you for highlighting your concerns.

We have recently started an internal refurbishment programme to ensure improvements are made where necessary, needless to say certain rooms have been highlighted as a priority.

Jump into the magnificent past, with all the facilities of an up-today hotel !
Room 223 was so quiet, in spite of Amlin and H Cup event... Staff was very efficient and pleasant, and we were just in front of the Arms Park doors....
Many thanks to the barman for his recipe of blackcurrant + Guinness ! sooo gooood !

We stayed here for a night as we were attending an event at the castle across the road. The room was a good size and clean. However everything about it was old. Windows were in need of a coat of paint.

Towels in the room were clean and fresh but not nice and fluffy

Breakfast was OK - but I would have expected a slightly bigger choice of things e.g only 2 type of juice.

The entrance to the hotel is somewhat grand and that is it. We stayed 4 nights from 19 May 2014 in room 127 which was absolutely disgusting for a 4 star hotel, the room really does need a makeover. The bathroom has got black mould on grouting, round the taps look as though they have not been cleaned for a long time. 2 windows in the room are certainly in need of attention or replacing. Room 127 is not a room that you would want to stay in for long.
Breakfast was not a problem, seated straight away and plenty of choice.
We were a coach party of 26 people and the evening meal seemed to be a problem for the kitchen. We were given a time to be seated but that did not seem to matter, one evening we were served over 1 hour later (not good enough)
Afternoon service in the bar was a waiting game and was served when staff spotted someone.

Room Tip: View room before staying if possible.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

I very much regret the disappointment caused by the issues you have detailed. We have recently started an internal refurbishment programme to ensure imporvements are made where necessary, needless to say certain bedrooms have been highlighted as a priority.

I am sorry to hear of your experience during dinner and from the bar. It is never our intention for anything to go wrong or for poor service to create a negative impression.

Your feedback is being taken most seriously and the issues you have raised are being fully reviewed to ensure that appropriate action is taken to learn from this very unusual situation.
