“Cheap & cheerful - depends what you're looking for!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2012

We stayed here as it was cheap for the night. My inital reaction was that it was very strangely located, essentially on an industrial estate! The hill for parking was also weird - make sure your brakes work! The reception is bright & clean - manager seems helpful, but literally only spoke to him to check in. Breakfast all you can eat is available for £6, but this isn't something that we used personally. The rooms themselves remind me of American-style motels, and I was very wary - inside the beds are ridiculously comfortable, & I did have a good night's sleep. Room was clean - just very strangely laid out. If you're looking for a cheap place to put your head down for the night, this more than does the job. Be under no illusions, it's a budget hotel - but it's not bad for the money that you pay. Parking is free, and there's plenty of it. And there's free wi-fi - not something we used as we didn't take a laptop, but it's something to bear in mind.

This hotel was booked by my client due to its convenient location .
On arrival I was given card key , the direction of my room was pointed to and no directions given. Needless to say I ended up in the wrong room. The numbering and layout was very confusing considering I had not stayed there before.
When I went back to the reception rather than offer to take me there he attempted to describe how to get there. However he changed his mind and took me there running ahead not asking if I needed help with my luggage .
All the while making me feel like it was a bother.
I complained the following morning to the manager and he reminded me it was not a 4/5 star hotel.
I shall not be staying here again.

A strange location granted but perfect for what i needed. Spacious Room, free unlimited WiFi that can stream 4 on demand. Didn't sample breakfast so cant comment. Really comfy bed aswell !. Well worth a nights stay and for a good price. Bath and shower were clean and shower gel etc plentiful 10/10.

Booked this for bank holiday weekend as was here for cricket and everywhere else booked out. Extortionate price for a 2 star as paid £120 per nt.
Rooms clean and beds comfortable. However whole place needs a refurb. Ok if you just want somewhere to put your head down. Didn't sample food as was not going to pay extra for breakfast when we paid so much for the room.
On the plus side taxis readily available to get into town which is about 15 min away. Cost about £12 - £15.
Cardiff lovely and clean and lots of pubs bars and restaurants. But won't be returning here in a hurry.

The best way to describe this hotel is to ask yourself what you are looking for.
If the question is a cheap hotel which is not to far from Cardiff with clean and tidy rooms then this could be worth consideration.
I was a bit concerned when the sat nav directed me into an industrial area but the hotel has a quirky european or american feel to it.
The staff although minimal are very polite.
The rooms are small but have everything you need for an overnight stay.
If you are looking for 4 or 5 star then look elsewhere but if your looking for 3star overnight good value for money then give this one consideration.

This unusual accommodation seems to attract a variety of extreme comments. Here is mine.

I have used this location over several years about once or twice a year because it’s close to where I need to be. I grant you the location is ‘unusual’ at the end of a Industrial estate cul de sac which has seen better days, the site being on a gradient and the style is looking a little dated and frayed at the edges BUT I have found that the catering has been brilliant, the beds comfortable, rooms clean, bathroom just fine. OK the Boddingtons wasn’t at its best but the staff seemed keen to please.

I can imagine that if some residents are thoughtless then it could be frustrating and noisy. I have not suffered with any such problems.

I’ll be using it until I have an unacceptable experience.

My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights between moving out of one house, and into another. The welcome was very good, as was every interraction with the reception crew. I have seen some complain of bad service, and I can honestly say that we had the opposite.

The hotel is, as others have commented, on a steep slope. This means that you may be leaving your car on the slope, so think about how good your handbrake is, and how good your hill-starts are!

The biggest problem that we had was due to the very hot weather and the lack of air-con in the rooms - but, hey we didn't pay for air-con. The window can be opened fully (clearly not spotted by some others), ans this helped.

The continental breakfast is good enough, didn't bother to pay another sum for a cooked breakfast. If you need any supplies, there is a Waitrose within walking distance and an ASDA within a mile or so.

Just remember the price that you are paying, and compare that with other hotels that charge several times the price.
