“Don't stay anywhere else in Cardiff”

All you ask for in a hotel is cleanliness, friendly staff, great location, value for money and a good nights sleep......The Royal Hotel has it all in abundance. On arrival the staff couldn't be more helpful and took an interest. Rebecca on reception with her friendly greeting was heartwarming on a cold morning. Scott the reception manager had a great raport with his staff which created a pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent, room clean and tidy, the bed and pillows "fantastic". We would highly recommend a stay at this hotel which, with its location in the heart of Cardiff and all the "plus" points above it won't let you down. On our next trip to Cardiff we would not consider staying anywhere else, the Royal is top of our list. It gets 100% from two very satisfied customers.

I've had the pleasure of staying at The Royal on a number of occasions on business over the past year. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable and the breakfast freashly cooked to your needs. I agree with the comments about disabled access as there are stairs and being in the city centre, parking is a few minutes away. If you don't know about the good Royal Hotel discounts at NCP and Cardiff Arms Park car parks before you go you might end up paying more than you need. The outside of the hotel is currently undergoing a major clean of the stone exterior and whilst the scaffolding outside spoils what views there are there are no other nuisance problems. If you book here I don't think you'll be disappointed and Cardiff is a good place to visit.

Room Tip: The quieter rooms are at the back of the hotel.

Lots of good points about the hotel (as per other reviews) but a couple of points.

Positives , nice decoration , good staff . wifi worked well down stairs (not in hotel room) , great chairs and tv in the room , good breakfast - (make sure included in your package or expensive on the day). Good location in centre of town and near Central stn.

Big issue (not the hotel's fault) is its central location on a Friday/Saturday night lots of noise till early hours if you are on the front of the hotel. If a light sleeper either buy ear plugs , get a room on the back or use another hotel.

Slightly disappointed the double turned out to be 2 singles pushed together (not zipped together).

Minor issues in the room let it down slight (hence not 5 star) that have not been checked for a while , bathroom door stuck on floor , if you pushed it to close would not go on catch . shower dripped for hours after use , room door also stuck before locking . Air Con is heating system which is not great at keeping room temp right throughout night. This is a shame given the positives .

Room Tip: Room on the back at the weekend to avoid club / party noise .

The Royal Hotel couldn't be better situated, being at the foot of a street running through the core of the city centre and about three minutes walk from the train and bus station. It's right next to some bars and clubs but any noise didn't impact on us at all. The hotel is probably not the best choice for people with restricted mobility as it has more internal stairs than most (despite lifts you may still have to do some stairs as there are several short flights to reach rooms along spur corridors on what are effectively split-level floors), but once we reached our room it was modern, had plenty of storage, a room safe, large flat screen tv, and a very comfy bed (although with oddly mismatched pillows). Service was friendly and responsive - we mentioned on our way out after unpacking that our room didn't seem to have any lighting suitable for reading (and turning off) in bed and when we returned a couple of hours later a lamp had been provided. Breakfast was very good with the usual buffet and cook-to-order options. The present scaffolding caused us no problem and the hotel rates were such good value compared to similar standards (in fact I've paid more for much worse) that we'll definitely stay here again.

3 mins from station, car park across the road, John Lewis and shopping centre 2 mins from front door. Breakfast plentiful, rooms well appointed and so comfortable I cant see how you could complain about anything. Nightclub on ground floor.....? Maybe there but I've stayed many times and never been aware of any noise. The Royal is one of my fave places to stay in Cardiff. Watch the prices on Trivago. I've never paid over £60 for bed and breakfast, often less which is real good value for money. Staff are helpful. Drinks in bar are way too expensive so have a drink in pub down the road. Entrance from main street is difficult and not well signposted but once you've found it it's ok, entrance from back of hotel is really handy for station but again, not well signposted. Now the exterior is being refurbed signage may be enhanced. Will look forward to my next visit and hope you enjoythe Royal expeience !!

Location couldn't be better, just opposite the St Davids shopping centre & with all the restaurants nearby. Hotel is undergoing an exterior refurb so you may be woken up by a builder staring at you. Suggest curtains are drawn !
Rooms & decor are very good. First time we stayed we got a disabled room, thanks to wife's broken ankle ! Very large and wheelchair friendly room. Massive bed & biggest tv I have seen outside pubs. Second time we got a "normal" room which, while a lot smaller & just with shower, was still good value for money.
The main problem with the hotel is the lack of parking. They are linked with a car park at the stadium 100yards or so away but still tenner a night !!

Room Tip: Limp and ask for disabled facilities....

The reception staff were very friendly in this centrally located hotel. Very close to shopping, bars and restaurants. Room was fine and reasonably priced and although there was scaffolding surrounding the hotel this didn't affect the stay at all, and a good night's sleep was had - very comfy bed! No complaints at all.
