“Great hotel, great location”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

The location of this hotel is brilliant, as it's a 3 minute walk from the Cardiff Central train station.
The room was a good size and the bathroom was very large and modern. The staff were really helpful and knowledgable about the city area, and gave us suggestions about where to go and sightsee and also where to eat.

Room Tip: We were on level 5 and didn't hear any street noise at all - ask for a room higher up.

Booked a night as it was cheap and was central location. Close but not too close to the railway station was good and it is easy to find. Check-in efficient with friendly staff. Booked a single room and it was fine but a little warm. Clean with all that you can need for a nights stay so I have no complaints. Breakfast was ok not spectacular but perfectly ok for a reasonably priced hotel. All in all I have no concerns and would stay again if in Cardiff - next time I will go and look at the Bees ( they have a hive on the roof and visitors can have a look )

Two of my friends and i booked this hotel in January 2013 as it was central well priced and reviews seemed to be good. We managed to book a triple room, which was brilliant as very few hotels in the centre of Cardiff. However, on the day (in Easter), we were politely informed that there were no triple rooms available. This defeats the purpose of booking a room in advance in the first place. We were instead offered a double room with an extra foldable bed included. This was already not a very acceptable arrangement, however we had nowhere else to go at that point. We tried it out for one night, however, the room was crammed, impossible to get around, and the foldable bed, needless to say, was the most uncomfortable thing ever. We tried to explain to the receptionist/manager that this was not going to work. we asked whether they could book us in another hotel or at least give us some of our money back, to which they said no, but they could try and make the bed more comfortable! So on returning to the hotel room that day we found two mattress on the foldable bed, talk about adding insult to injury. At this point it had turned out to be a bit of a farse! Finally, on the last day we were informed that the triple room was now available. This meant returning to our room, packing heading into another room and unpacking again.
This was not the only issue we encountered. The bathroom in the first room had only one set of lights working, so we technically had to shower in the dark. This would not have been a problem if this was a romantic escapade but unfortunately...it wasn't! The hotel staff was also informed about this but nothing was done about it either.#
To conclude, this hotel gets 2 points, 1 cause it is central and 1 cause the rooms were admittedly clean. had it not been for the poor customer service and the hideous way were dealt with it would have been an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: I'm not sure what to suggest...place your booking and try your luck. I would look elsewhere tho...

The beds were great, nice big room with wooden floor.
The breakfast room nice and old but very big.
It was in the middle of the city so that was nice.
The entrance very small and strange for such a big hotel. The receptiondesk at the second floor which was odd.
The internet did not work in our room except if you were standing in the hallway. It didn´t work in the breakfast room either!

Stayed for the bank holiday weekend. Situated in the city centre, we heard very little noise from the surrounding pubs and clubs, and there are quite a few of them.
We found the rooms very nice, comfortable beds, hot shower. Housekeeping were very good. There was an issue with the water pressure, which management did apologise, for with a note under everyone's door (a minor repair), which I have never seen before regarding a problem.
All the staff that we met were pleasant and helpful.
The English breakfast (buffet style) was tasty, I did prefer to wait for it to arrive at the counter as I could be sure that the eggs were freshly cooked.
You have to add the cost of parking to your stay, they don't have their own car park, but have a favourable rate with a nearby facility.
I would definitely return to this hotel.

Stayed here last night, great central location in Cardiff and was pleasantly surprised having only booked it a few days prior to stay. We were given a deluxe room which was very spacious and nicely finished, we had a free bottle of wine, bath robes, water, great tv and excellent selection of teas and coffees. The girl at reception (didn't get her name) was very friendly and chatty.. Breakfast was great, both cooked and continental and served in the Captain Scott room which is very impressive. I have stayed in most hotels in Cardiff and would certainly put this one in the top 3, great value and location are the biggest benefits of this hotel and I will certainly be visiting again soon!

Room Tip: Location is great, make sure to use the wood street car park as this is far cheaper than other car p...

Just left the hotel and am writing this review on the train home, great city centre cosy hotel, with everything you need, free coffee and tea etc and loverly bee shower gel, shampoo and soap. Rooms where clean and tidy, beds where very very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely the shower was brilliant, really powerful. Despight only being on the 3 rd floor with bus stations and trains near by, as well as bars just below we couldn't hear a thing, and the curtains blocked out all the light, great nights sleep! Lifts too all the floors, and nice flooring so not a pain to pull cases along. Being right in the city centre it was perfect, easy access to everything, and the staff where really helpful and lovely. Already planning our trip back to the hotel and Cardiff!
