“Pleasantly surprised! ”
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

Having stayed in cardiff a few times we thought we would try The Royal. We weren't disappointed! Very friendly staff from the outset. Don't know why people say they get confused with the lifts. . . 2 separate lifts, one to reception and one to the rooms! Lovely decor and clean communal areas. Room was a little dusty but only if you looked for it. Comfy bed. Huge pillows! Good size tv. Internet access. Bathroom was nice. Hot water and great shower, also had a bath. Great use of space with a big full length mirror in the wardrobe. Iron and ironing board and safe too. Even do luggage storage which is great as we were travelling by train and didn't want to lug our cases around. We didn't hear any noise from outside, although it was a Sunday night. Would stay here again :)

Besides the location and the majority of the staff, the hotel was not that clean. On arrival to our room which was a disabled three bed bedroom. Every time we walked around the room we stuck to the floor. The hotel was close to Cardiff castle and shopping and eateries. Loved Cardiff people are one of the friendliest in the world, but I would recommend another hotel.

Me and my boyfriend stayed over at The Royal for one night as we had a meal booked in the Chapel. As I live in Monmouthshire, it worked out better value to stay in Cardiff than to pay for a taxi.
I booked a standard double room and added breakfast on for us both. This came to just over £60, about half the cost of the majority of the other hotels in the area. The location is great as it is literally a minute away from the train station in the heart of the city. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a lovely lady on reception who checked us in and directed us to our room. Our last stay in a hotel in Abergavenny was very disappointing, so we tried not to look forward to the room too much. When we reached our room, to say we were delighted would be an understatement. The room was enormous and very well decorated and beautifully clean, it had everything we needed and then some. We had a nice view over the city, and even though when we returned from our meal the streets were very busy, there wasn't a great deal of noise to be heard in our bedroom. The room benefits from the original sash windows, but also UPVC windows set behind them (assuming this is due to listed building regs) so it was pretty well sound proofed. We both had a great nights sleep. We went down to breakfast at 9 and the breakfast staff were helpful and attentive and breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of choice (even for me, the fussy vegetarian!). The lady on reception was again very polite and courteous when we checked out. Both myself and my other half have managerial rolls in hospitality, and we wouldn't hesitate to come back!! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Stayed here on a Tuesday night during school holidays. We paid a really good price and were really impressed with everything about the hotel. Every employee we came across was polite, friendly and went out of their way to assist us. Our room was on the 7th floor but we liked this. Our room was clean and spacious, beds comfy. We went for the breakfast option and this was really nice too. Can't wait to return....

Our first time exploring Cardiff. A city centre hotel for under £45 for the room for the night seemed a good deal and when we arrived, the reception was luxurious, the carpeting and the lift fresh (as was the smell throughout the hotel). The room was excellently furnished in a modern style, complete with all facilities and a good en suite, complete with a powerful shower. The staff were pleasant and both friendly and helpful. The bar was well stocked and the free third drink went down well.
Well worth returning to whenever we are in Cardiff again

Ideally located in city centre. Great service and staff are very well trained in customer services. Food was great and I can recommend this venue for couples, business and group trips.
The only drawback, if it is relavent, is there is no parking, but arriving by train I didn't care.
Prices vary greatly from £60 to £1000 per room depending on what event is on at the millennium stadium.

Room Tip: Take the train

We couldn't fault our stay at this central Cardiff hotel. Rooms are decorated to a high standard and are really clean. The breakfasts were fantastic - great selection and the service was quick. My only criticism would be that the rooms are quite small, probably worth it for the price though.
