Owner description: This walk is brought to you by "Cardiff History and Hauntings" offering professional guided walks discovering Cardiff's past. On a gentle walk through the heart of Cardiff hear stories of a town long gone: gang warfare between powerful families on the Tudor streets, pirates seeking haven and sheltered by nobles, statesmen holding the highest office in the land, martyrs who died for their faith, and poor folk who worked hard but paid a heavy price for minor crimes.

This was brilliant, Jim has some many stories to tell on Cardiffs history and keeps you captivated for whole walk, which doesn't take you that far around the city centre. This really helped shape our trip into a truly memorable occasion, telling us many things we did not know and from the sounds of it alot of local people too!

Took this tour on Saturday 28th April. It started at 10am at the Tourist Information Centre. Our Guide, Jim, was brilliant. Interesting, funny and clearly passionate about Cardiffs past.
The tour centres on the medieval history of Cardiff that is all but forgotten. Jim conjures images of what it would have been like to stand in that place in medieval times with his descriptions and anecdotes.
Excellent value at £5 for the 90 minute walking tour, highly recommended.

If you had time to do only one thing in Cardiff, Jim's tour of the historical center of the city would have to be it. The ingredient that set Jim's tour apart from many others is his passion and encyclopedic knowledge of the subject matter. For several hours he wove past events into current Cardiff and there wasn't a question asked that he didn't know something about. Dr. Who points of interest? Genealogy questions? Where to find ghosts in Llandaff? He had the answers. He also didn't forget my stomach, pointing out great places to pick up Welsh cakes and laverbread as we walked. It really was a fascinating tour and gets a well-deserved 5 stars.

Having joined the haunted tour last year I decided to check out this tour on my second visit to Cardiff.
Jim's knowledge is phenomenal and I discovered such hidden gems I would never come across otherwise, as well as learning a great deal about Cardiff's fascinating though little known history.
I was lucky to have a private tour, but would highly recommend joining this tour whenever you visit the city.

Together with a friend we spent a few days in Cardiff on a do it yourself city break. On the strength of the positive tripadvisor reviews we chose to book this guided walk, and we are very glad that we did. Jim Cowan is a great guide, he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the city & his enthusiasm is infectious. With some tours you are left feeling you could have done just as well on your own with the aid of a good guidebook, but not this one - Jim has picked out some of the quirkier bits of history which really bring the place to life. The pace is not too energetic either - opportunities to sit down en route - so although we went a bit over the 90 minutes (we were asking questions, told you the enthusiasm is catching) we were not left exhausted and footsore at the end. Shame we couldn't stay for the ghost walk. Highly recommended & excellent value.
