“Great place”
Reviewed 9 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We really enjoyed our stay in Railway Cottage from the first contact with Robert by phone when we needed directions. Robert was really friendly and helped us with train and bus advice as well as where to eat. The cottage was ideal for us, really cosy and comfortable and a well equipped kitchen.
We would recommend Railway Cottage for anyone who wanted a base to explore Cardiff and the surrounding area but far enough from the City Centre to enjoy the views, especially from the back garden.

“Beautiful cottage; perfect break!”
Reviewed 15 April 2012 for a stay in April 2012

My boyfriend and I rented the Railway Cottage for three nights in April as we were attending a friend's wedding the same weekend. The cottage is easily accessible with parking on site and is well placed about 15 minutes from Cardiff city centre. The cottage has been beautifully decorated with good furnishings and all the necessary bits and pieces (including all the kitchen utensils you could need, an iron and board and hairdryer)!

The living room has a big sofa and smaller armchair. The kitchen is connected to the sitting room area and although it is small, it is very well set out and fully equipped. We made some great dinners during our stay. The bathroom is roomy and the shower is great. The bedroom in particular is very simply but comfortably decorated with a small wardrobe and lovely bed linen. The mattress is fantastic. There is a trainline nearby but it definitely did not disrupt our stay at all.

What made the trip for us however was Rob, the owner. Not only was he great when getting in touch about the rental but, when we had car trouble on our first night, he got out all his tools and helped us get it back on the road, for which we are eternally grateful!

A fantastic stay in a beautiful, well located cottage.

“Super accommodation, lovely owners, beautiful area, regular buses into Cardiff if you can tear yourselves away.”
Reviewed 25 November 2011 for a stay in November 2011

The best of both worlds - quiet and private but owners close by if you need anything. Garth mountain and Taff trail are a stone's throw from the door, as is the frequent bus service into Cardiff (less frequent on Sundays).

Robert provided his usual welcome of wine and freshly made Welshcakes, adapting the recipe to suit our vegan diet. He also advised on local eating places and ensured we got a fabulous meal at The Spice Connoisseur a few minutes walk from the house. The walk up Garth mountain is superb, especially the trees, and the location very peaceful despite the nearby railway line - anyone from a city or large town would barely notice the occasional train going through.

Ideal for a couple or a single person (I would have felt perfectly safe and at home by myself) and about half an hour by bus into Cardiff for entertainment or work. We certainly plan to come back and stay for longer when time permits to explore the Taff trail, visit Caerphilly, enjoy some culture in Cardiff and hopefully also hear our hosts sing (we are told they both have superb voices, and Jo is much in demand by the BBC).

We also enjoyed eating at home and found everything we needed in the village, where everyone was as friendly and helpful as our hosts. Truly the best of all possible worlds.

“Cosy welcoming cottage”
Reviewed 14 October 2011 for a stay in September 2011

The location is really good, and after spending our days outside we were really looking forward to go back to this place that can only be called home.
It is very private, very cosy and clean, with a garden and nice view on the mountain.
The welcome home made biscuits were absolutely delicious, and so was the wine. very nice touches all way through, and the pleasure of being able to cook while away is an absolute plus. .. but there are great restaurants a few steps away. (try the indian one!)
In one word, if you planning to be in the surroundings, this is a much more pleasant way of visiting the area than going to a hotel.

Thanks again for everything.

Thank you so much for visiting Railway Cottage (the orginal name from the 1860s..but not the original decor thankfully!)
We appreciate your kind words and have upgraded the kitchen utensils and hope that you will come and visit us again in the future.

“A lovely location with even lovelier hosts”
Reviewed 29 August 2011 for a stay in August 2011

It's a perfect location when you travel with your partner - well equipped, nicely furnished and more than enough space for two persons. The owners live next door and they are very nice and helpful people!
You can explore the Garth Mountains and the Taff Trail, enjoy a barbecue in the lovely garden or take one of the busses to Cardiff or Caerphilly.
There's a railway directly behind the cottage, but that didn't spoil our stay at all. I use earplugs at night anyway and my husband slept well without them.
I think, we'll return one day! :-)
