“Lovely Place, lovely People”
Reviewed 20 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

As promised after our last year's holiday, we returned for another visit this year. We had enjoyed our stay last year very much, and there was still so much to see!

Coming back to the Railway Cottage was almost like coming home. Rob and Jo greeted us like old friends, and so did the people at Fagins Ale & Chop House whom we'd met last year.

Just like last year, the Railway Cottage was a perfect base for our explorations of South Wales. Again, it was clean and cosy, the kitchen well equipped, the size just perfect for two people, and we enjoyed some self-cooked meals inside and outside, in our private little garden.

We also had some good meals in the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn, the local Indian restaurant and, of course, at Fagins Chop & Ale House, where we spent most of our evenings in very pleasant company, just like last year. And Fagins is only 95 steps away from the Railway Cottage - we counted them - so, easy to reach, and easy to get home late at night :-).

Apart from spending our nights in the pub, we walked up the Garth this year, went to the Gower peninsula twice, visited Caerphilly Castle, Llandaff Cathedral, and had a small hike through Bute Park, all upon recommendations from the people we had met. All these places were well worth visiting. Of course, a trip to Cardiff Bay and the Doctor Who Experience was on our timetable, too, as well as filling up our Welsh Whisky supply at the Penderyn Distillery.

All in all, we had a lovely holiday again. The people - acquaintances from last year, as well as new ones from this year - made us feel very welcome. Apart from that, the scenery is great, and the location of the Railway Cottage in Taffs Well is a wonderful base. And the weather was just superb - we carried our rain jackets around in the rucksack, but didn't have to put them one once. We enjoyed our stay very much!

“Excellent base”
Reviewed 2 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed in the cottage for 2 nights as we were going to a wedding at Canada Lodge, which is only 10 mins away. The cottage has everything you need, it really is a home from home. The kitchen is small, but very well equipped. The bed is comfortable. There is an outside space, but we didn't use this as it was raining all weekend!
All in all this was just what we were looking for. All the other quests were staying in Premier Inn's - We are so glad we found this instead!

“Superb, well located, friendly and everything we needed.”

We needed somewhere close enough to Cardiff to visit but away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This fitted the bill perfectly. Rob met us with Welsh cakes and wine (what's not to like about that !!), then left us to get on with things - which is exactly what we wanted.
The place had everything we needed, quiet location, smart fully equipped kitchen, wifi, clean bedroom, parking and stunning views. We didn't partake of the restaurant nearby nor the pub but it was there if we wanted it. Amazing places to visit - the coast, follies, castles, churches, museums and art galleries. We could have stayed for two weeks instead of a few days and wished we had. For us it could not have been better.
It would not be suitable for wheelchair access because of steps, nor would it take a family of people but if you are thinking of a place to stay for two people it is a home from home.

Liked best: Comfortable and quiet.
Liked least: Negotiating coming out of the property onto the road - it took some practice.

Lovely welcome, cosy little home from home. Great for visiting sights in Cardiff, and to get up the valleys. We look forward to staying again.

“Neat place - cosy”

The Railway cottage is cosy and perfectly adequate for a couple wishing a short stay.

Clean, tidy and modern, it has all equipment necessary and as it is located in the centre of the town, just a small walk to a great village pub with lots of local ales..

This is a nice place and those looking for a similar cosy cottage - no fears with this place.

Thanks to the owners,

Marc
