I recently found myself with very short notice for a trip to Cardiff.....The only availability I could find that wasn’t charging £200+ for the Jubilee weekend was this hotel....I was pretty anxious at first, as the reviews are quite mixed. BUT I would like to write an honest review about my stay.....
Upon arrival in Cardiff the hotel owner was very helpful, polite and professional, offering directions in advance of our arrival and also gave "Cardiff Nightlife" advice for our evening in the city.....a real pleasure to speak to! I have to say that his service is probably helping the hotel's high ratings on Trip Advisor.....Really nice chap who made you feel very welcome!
The hotel itself is a beautiful OLD Victorian building, lovely character features etc.....but emphasis on OLD. I can only assume that the age of the hotel is to blame for some of these negative reviews. Whilst the decor, furniture and general interior is somewhat aged, I found the hotel to be extremely clean. Our towels and sheets were crisp and white, and the en-suite was verging on ancient but spotless! Hot running water, comfortable bed, nice complimentary items in the room and all things in working order (lights, tv, windows, kettle etc).
I am a typical Virgo - FUSSY! Had this place not been so clean, I would have considered sleeping in my car, but the hotel really does not deserve some of the rude and OTT negative comments shown on here.
With regards to the breakfast included in our stay, it was cooked fresh to order which was brilliant as I hate buffet breakfast. I feel the quality of the breakfast was very high - lovely thick bacon and amazing tasty sausages. In addition to the cooked breakfast, there were also some cereals, condiments, yoghurts etc that you could help yourself to.
Overall for £60 between 2 people and breakfast - this place was worth very penny! It was a total bargain and for one night, it was all we needed. It is within close proximity to the city centre, and had it not been to rainy we might have even managed the walk to the bay.
