“Excellent Hotel For A City Break In Cardiff”
Reviewed 10 July 2010

We spent an excellent two nights at the Novotel Cardiff Centre. The reception area is very modern and we found the staff very welcoming as they checked us in. The room was very clean with a large flat screen TV, air con, tea tray, minibar and all other amenities you would expect. Our three year old son slept on the sofa bed which was already pulled out and made up for us. The bed was very comfortable although we found the rather odd square shaped pillows far from ideal and on reflection we probably should have requested more conventional ones from reception. Our room rate included breakfast which is served as a buffet in the really nice breakfast room which is styled in contrast to the modern reception area in the 'old' part of the hotel. There is plenty of choice and we were seated and served efficiently by pleasant staff on both mornings. We also used the swimming pool and spa on one occasion. We found both the pool and changing areas clean and spent an enjoyable 45 minutes in there after a full morning and afternoon of walking around Cardiff. There was also a gym and sauna which we did not use. The hotel is well located in between Cardiff Bay and the city centre (10 min walk to the bay and 5/10 minute walk to the city centre). The immediate area around the hotel is not what you would call picturesque but then again this is a city centre hotel. Although we stayed midweek I strongly suspect that not being located right in the heart of the city centre will probably mean a higher chance of a peaceful night's sleep as well! We walked from the train station with a couple of large bags. If you have suitcases then we would recommend a taxi which wouldn't cost a huge amount. For those thinking about driving, the hotel has a large car park although we understand there is a charge for every 24 hours which is not something we personally agree with. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it as a good base for a city break. The hotel has a really modern feel to it and the staff we met were always polite and helpful. The leisure facilities are also a nice bonus. If you book this hotel you are unlikely to be disappointed.

My room was very large for a standard double, the bathroom was great - very powerful showers. Well equipped rooms - massive tv and a small sofa area - definitely worth staying here.

The restaurant serves pretty decent food too - as a business traveller you can't go wrong eating here if you don't want to make the trip into town.

Breakfast is fantastic too with plenty of choice aside from the full English buffet which is undeniably good, smoked salmon. cheeses and continental meats are just some of the alternatives.

As a tip though - walk straight across the building site towards the pedestrian railway bridge for a shortcut into the city centre.

Novotel made our stay so special, I booked online a month before we went, I also put on the comments section that it was our wedding anniversary, we booked an executive room and I hoped they would give us a quite room. When we checked in they had upgraded us to the Terrece Suite which is their wedding suite, it was really wonderful, two amazing balconies with nice furniture and plants on plus it was warm and sunny so we could sit out and enjoy it.
The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, room service was there within minutes of our order being placed, and the hotel also gave us late check out which meant we did not have to leave till 5.00pm the next day.
We used the pool, the gym and the sauna and steam room all were excellent, the location for us was perfect, half way between the bay and the city enter, as for the car parking we pulled in at 9.00am on the Saturday morning and checked out at 5.00pm the next day which was a lot more than 24 hours yet we were only charged for the one night £7 which I think was more than fair, my own city of Salisbury charege a lot more.
We will be going back and also using many other Novotels as they are excellent value.
Thank you Novotel Cardiff.

Stayed two nights on a short vacation; the purpose to watch two (marvellous) performances at the Welsh National Opera. The hotel is situated in an old factory/brewery or warehouse, it seemed, but was very well rebuilt to modern contemporary style (very much like the Paddington Novotel in London)The rooms were fine, and the loacation is near ideal, with fifteen minutes walk to the Millennium Center and five minutes to the impressive shopping area near Cardiff Castle. The day were hot and sunny, and the restaurant was insufficiently shaded and/or airconditioned. A very young staff from several parts of the world obviously lacked practice and/or sufficient knowledge of English; both shortcomings that time will remedy.

An excellent location only a short distance from the city centre. My room was in the the warehouse conversion and was an excellent size. Bathroom had both a bath and shower which you dont normally see in hotels at this price range. We got a good deal on price and I would have given 5 stars but the water was a little cool both the night before and in the morning. At reception i heard someone complaining it was cold. Get this sorted out and I would say this was the best city centre hotel I have stayed in (taking into account room, price location and facilities). A call from reception 10 minutes after check-in to see if everything was OK was a nice touch.

I stayed at the hotel for a two night break using my tesco clubcard vouchers! The hotel is just a 5 minute walk into the city centre and a 20 minute walk to the Bay area. The breakfast had everything you needed, lots of choice. the rooms all had all the finishing touches including iron board and biscuits on the coffee tray!! We found all staff very friendly and would certainly return again.

The hotel gym was the best hotel gym that I have ever used. It might be small, but it had lots of multi way machines

I liked the fact that the resturant was open until 10pm
