The hotel is very close to Central Cardiff train station, we could see as we approached the station on the train from Bristol.
We arrived shortly after 2pm and apparently our room wasn't ready for us because the woman checking us in crossed out the room number on our paperwork and assigned us to another room. We ended up in 601- the wheelchair accessible room. The heat was set absurdly high (27C/82F) and stank to high heaven. We should have complained and switched rooms, but my husband fell asleep so we dealt with it. The room was nice enough but I would have appreciated a sofa. There was a thin layer of dust on the surfaces, including the hospitality tray (kettle, mugs, spoons etc).
We ate at the restaurant for dinner. While the food was good, the portions were off. We each ordered the chicken caesar salad for our starter. It was delicious but huge. We hardly had room to touch our mains. Husband's fish & chips was ok, my steak was a bit bland and tough but mostly uneaten.
Front desk staff weren't particularly friendly but restaurant staff were great.
I would stay here again, but I would speak up if I were given a subpar room.More
