We visited Castell Coch during our stay in Cardiff. A little out of town, but easy enough to get to. It is a real fairy tale castle, especially walking through the trees to the front. A small castle but as it was owned by the same man as Cardiff Castle, the decoration is similar, but just as magnificent.

Built in 19th century a Gothic revival castle built on the remains of a genuine 13th century fortification. William Burgess was given a free reign by his paymaster John Patrick Crichton-Stuart, the 3rd Marquess of Bute to create a rural retreat from his main residence Cardiff Castle.
A great attraction for all the family. Be aware of steep steps that get very narrow and contested at busy. The views from the top of the towers are fantastic on a clear day You can see Somerset. There is a lot to see from bedrooms, the kitchen, library, dungeon games room and a shop. Enter by the drawbridge one of very few still working to this day.
Admission is reasonable at £5.50 for adults and concessions for children and senior citizens. Car parking is free.

Well hidden castle in the woods and reminds me of a fairytale. It is a great example of a folly with style, beware of the steps to the upper floors but well worth it
