Firstly this is not a jaunt for novices it is 28 miles circular and has a very large elevation over a sustained period especially the climb out of Machen. I did it in two days and wild camped with the hammock so I was carrying a lot of extra kit than if it was to be done on a series of split days out walking.
The path disappears without trace on occasions so you would be advised to have an OS map at hand or gps. Most of the signs have been defaced at public areas but off the beaten track they are maintained.
The path in areas is overgrown with brambles so long sleeves and a good stick may help. The good bits are some stunning views for the hard work you will be putting out. If you want a sensible approach do it in segments but you will have to consider your journey as it will not be circular. If you want to wild camp and have a hammock there are plenty of options as are there plenty of water options for filtering.
My top tip don't bother finding the path in Draethen just follow the road as it joins the road but is a pointless excursion up into a small pine forest with a steep climb just to come back down again and then join the road. Can't get my head around it.. However the little forest is a good hammock point and you could bimble down to the pub when set up ! I didn't set up here though but nearer my 13 mile point for me.
Needs a council bod to have a walk around an clear up some of the route really. Enjoy
