“Heat and dust....”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

We decided to stay at this hotel as it was close to the Bay which is where our mini-break actitivies were centred.

I don't want to say too much because the whole review will come across as negative. What I will say is the hotel is very close to the Bay, so if this is your main point you're looking for, you can't go wrong. Expect to pay £5approx for a cab from hotel to Bay / vice versa. Despite google maps giving you a walking route, its actually not feasible due to dual carriageways with no footpaths, so cab / car / bus is much safer.

Our room (num 35) was hot beyond belief, so much so that we all slept on top of the covers in our underwear, and thats with 2 fans in the room provided by the hotel. We couldn't have the window open because of the noise from the car park at night (people coming and going from the pub restaurant next door). Also, there was a musty smell everywhere that seemed like a combination of dust and damp, and was just really unpleasant. Additionally, lighting in our room was faulty, as was shower gel dispenser in bathroom- nothing major, but you expect things to at least work.

We tried to explain this both on night and the following morning and both times were fobbed off by reception staff who just said the building was old without air con and they could only apologise and recommend we stay in a hotel with air conditioning in future (!!!) and that the company were too tight to pay for proper equipment.

Overall, I'd rather pay the extra in a cab and hotel fees and stay in the city in future. We certainly will be back to Cardiff and the Bay, but we won't be back to this hotel.

Friendly staff but 15 min walk to the town centre (easily done once you know how). However the evening buffet was withdrawn, to be presumably just thrown away so the staff could go home at short notice at 8.45, while a claim under the 'Guarantee', for noise and light issues still so far ignored. Traffic was loud outside one of the rooms, it was stuffy when trying to sleep - though fans were provided - and a main bedroom light remain unfixed throughout our stay.

We have stayed here before so it was our obvious choice when staying in Cardiff. We were here for a festival in Cardiff. We arrived early & asked if we could leave our luggage so as not to leave it in the car, the staff went & checked are rooms had been serviced & let us in early. All staff here are lovely, talkative & pleasant to interact with. The hotel has had a refit & is clean tidy & fresh looking. Good furniture, tv, kettle etc. Bathroom & linen spotless & lots of it. Our stay was lovely & quiet, perfect nights sleep just as they promised with their guarantee. The staff in the restaurant for breakfast were fabulous, the man running breakfast service (i believe his name is Lloyd) is lovely & so attentive. It was well stocked & lovely & fresh, you couldn't ask for more from a breakfast & fab for the price. All in all I highly recommend this hotel, it is now & has always been on every previous visit a pleasure to stay here. You get exactly what you pay for & more.

Very quick and smooth checking in. Room available early, so great to be able to get in the room right away when we arrived early. Room spotless. Very clean room and bathroom. Everything you need in a hotel room for a basic short stay - hair dryer, TV and wifi.

Free parking (one of the reasons we picked the hotel) and on-site Brewers Fayre. We had 3 excellent breakfasts in the restaurant, but otherwise ate elsewhere. A 15 min walk to the edge of the main shopping areas of the city. 20-25 min walk to the Castle - so great location.

Staff all friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed the stay.

Excellent parking - we could see the car through our window. 10 minute work into city centre. Loved our stay would definitely use Premier Inn again.

This Premier Inn is situated in an Industrial Estate so a fair walk to the City Centre but unlike hotels in the City has free parking.
The room, bedding and bathroom were pleasingly clean. The mattress was a little on the firm side but a choice of pillow firmness was a nice touch.
The bath sides were very high and there was no rail to hold on to. The less able bodied would find it difficult to get in for bath or shower.
The floors were very creaky and noisy in the corridors.
We had a first floor room, number 73 which was as far away from reception as you could be. however, it was relatively quiet for this type of accommodation as it was situated at the end of a corridor with only one neighbour. So, no banging of doors from many other rooms, doors in corridors or passing traffic.
A Brewers Fayre Pub next door serves varied breakfasts and meals and Costa coffee. A great TV and kettle plus tea coffee and sugar provided along with hand wash and shower gel dispensers in the bathroom.
Another great idea was a text confirming the booking also offering directions.

Room Tip: Room 73 quiet but a long walk from reception.

Very welcoming staff, everyone very eager to help, polite and friendly. Especially the bar staff and manager of the Brewers Fayre next door. Food here was good, we all enjoyed breakfast, lots to choose from. The costa coffee was really excellent. Rooms were clean, fresh and comfortable. Parking was free and plenty of it. We needed a taxi to get to the Doctor Who experience as it was quite a long walk into Cardiff for our two children.
