“A pleasant experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

This is a no-frills well run city centre hotel. Our two night weekend stay was a pleasant, enjoyable and faultless experience. Friendly and attentive staff available 24 hours providing the impression of a family run Guest House. Clean and surprisingly spacious rooms. No one in our party found the beds too hard. We had second floor rooms overlooking the motorola, cineworld and the shopping centre. Wide variety of restauants and bars within a short walking distance to suit all tastes and budgets. In the almost opposite direction towards the hospital and universtity area there is City Road currently being revitalised from its run down state by the newly opened or refurbished restaurants offering international cuisine from the fast food variety through to fine dining and opulence. A 15 minute walk or short taxi ride away is the Cardiff Bay area with more expensive bars and restaurants yet buzzing.

We enjoyed our stay, the motorpoint arena was so close we didnt have to leave our room till the last minute. Shops were within a 5 min stroll. For us it was what we wanted. The only draw back is parking there is not any that belong to the hotel. When we went to reception to ask about parking the lady was very helpful and gave us a sheet that showed were the cheapest parking was. Unfortunatly it is a very long way from the hotel. We ended up in the nearest ncp car park opposite. Which for a overnight stay was not as expensive as we thought but dragging our suitcases was a bit tiring.

Thank you very much for writing a comment on this website.
As the hotel does not have its own car park, we recommend a car park 3 minute walk away from the hotel, at £5 for 24 hours.

The beds here are terrible. I woke with a bad back which lasted five days on painkillers and ruined my holiday. When I mentioned this to reception they said many guests complained about the beds and they were under review. Well hurry up and replace these hard beds or you will run out of guests once the word is spread. I have stayed in Ibis hotels in New Zealand and Australia often and never experienced such. Also these rooms and especially the bathrooms are too small. There is no fridge, clock radio and space to swing a cat. Also quite a noisy hotel. They seem to cater for stag do weekends which makes it noisy.

All in all very disappointing stay and back ache really ruined the next few days. Dont stay here.

Room Tip: no room could be any good with those hard beds

athough a budget hotel (£39) we enjoyed our stay
convenient for motorola and shopping in city centre
next door to 2 very good restaurent the thia and maderia
which weve eaten in and really enjoyed
very nice young girl on reception who greeted us
and offered us a choice of room but adviced us to go for 3 floor near road as this was the quiet end .
the only real complaint if any was the bed was a little hard.

This is a budget hotel with a lot of features you'd expect from a higher end establishment. £39 for one night is very reasonable and it was directly oposite the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena (where we saw Billy Connolly). Short walk to the shops (all day breakfast £4 at Belinis recommended) and half an hour walk to the Cardiff Bay area.
There was tea making in the room (an often missing item in budget hotels) and plenty of staff at hand. There is a 24hr bar and restaurant area, and not overpriced either. The room was clean with a lovely big shower and plenty of hot water and nice bedding. We had a really good mattress although a little on the firm side for us. The only negatives were slightly noisy air conditioning that clicked in every so often and the railway line to the rear of the hotel. There was 24hr parking opposite the hotel (£18) and in a short walking distance around a couple of corners (£5). We ate out at the Portuguese restaurant a couple of doors away and it was really excellent. Highly recommended. All in all a really good value for money hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the railway line

The Ibis Cardiff Centre is an underrated gem of an hotel right, as the name suggests, in the centre of Cardiff. It is perfectly situated for the shops and The Millennium Stadium. Upon arrival you are greeting (or I least I was) by very smart, air hostess like reception staff who check you in with Eastern European efficiency that you come to expect from most good Hotels these days, quite a pleasant contrast from the slack jawed teenagers once employed in these positions.
The rooms are very well, if basically appointed and decorated to a reasonable standard. A pleasant 'pod' houses the bathroom containing a shower large enough to swing a whole family of cats should you wish to gauge its size thus. The bed although comfortable was the un-sprung hero variety and had a mattress made entirely of memory foam (or bad memory foam as I like to call it) this made for a firm and slightly humid night of slumber as I woke several time and felt like I’d been Evo stuck to the bed. No matter though, I more than made up for my sticky memory foam night with a lengthy session in the Tartdis like shower (minus the cats) the nexy morning.
All in all, The Ibis Cardiff Centre is a very pleasant Hotel with nice facilities and crisp, well ironed staff. The food menu looked good and was very reasonably priced. I would certainly recommend it to any weary traveller or travellers in need of a really good shower, alone or in a group!

Friend and I decided to come and see Cardiff for two days in May 2011. Ibis was our choice because of fairly low price and close proximity to the city center.
On the good side: it has excellent location, it's cheap and it has standard of quality of a typical IBIS (small, but clean rooms, no frills).
The biggest downside is the proximity of the hotel to rail tracks and sounds of passing trains that you could hear in any time of the day or night. Made our sleep quality terrible.
Staff was very nice and attentative, but forgot to add up points on both my A-club and my Miles and More card, even after I asked them twice.
All in all not a bad hotel, even though I will next time stay at the Premier Inn which is very near this hotel. Small difference in price, big difference in the hotel quality.

Room Tip: Take a room as far as possible from the railway
