“Great find, Nice Hotel in an Excellent Lovation”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

Great hotel just a few mins walk from centre of Cardiff, about 400m from Cardiff Castle with an entrance from Bute Park into the car park. We took the water bus to Cardiff Bay stops on the river Taff just over the foot bridge in the park about 200m from the hotel. It only costs £3 and takes you to the restaurants, bars and shops on the Bay in about 25 mins. The welcome at the hotel was great, we were greeted as soon as we had parked the car in the free car park and escorted to reception where we were checked in and the taken to our room where the nice young lady showed us around and mad sure we knew where everything was and explained the breakfast times plus the bar and restaurant opening hours. The room we had was a suite over looking the park which was very well furnished had two flat screen TVs, free wifi, bathrooms and an iron etc. Both the bedroom lounge and bathroom were very clean. The bar restaurant area is really like a gastro pub with some good food at reasonable prices with a 15% discount for guests of the hotel. There are several real ales available at pub prices. At the front of the hotel there is a nice outside terrace leading from the bar with seating and sun shades which was well used in the evening by both locals and hotel guests alike. All in all a great find in an excellent location for central Cardiff with no need to use the car. Only downside is there is no air con and the bar can be noisy

I stayed two nights with my wife and on the amazon local deal. Upgraded to deluxe room which was lovely. Superb waterfall shower but very small bath.
Went to the bar both nights which had a great buzz. The table was slightly sticky but did not matter, second night near the gents toilet no smell and I was there for 1 1/2 hours.
Second night so good a guitarist come in for a drink and performed for over 1 hour.
Offered free snacks as well peanut butter pretzels.
First real holiday alone without kids for 18 years.
Nice breakfast too
What more can I say!!

Well popped in here for a quick drink before visiting an open theatre alongside in Sophia Gardens. The staff couldn't care less about you as a customer whilst they continued to stock the shelves behind the bar instead of looking after us waiting at the bar! Sat down - the tables were so sticky and smelly that we just could not put our hands/sleeves on them. Unfortunately we sat near the male toilet entrance and every time the door was opened - you guessed it - horrible Stink - good job we weren't eating food! Won't be going there again!

We had a suite room which was spacious, clean and very well presented at a good rate. The bedroom area was modern and a very comfortable king size bed. It also had a leather sofa bed that could sleep two more, so if there were four of you staying you would be getting even more for your money at a quality hotel compared that to of a premier inn. The only criticism was that it was very warm in the room due to the hot weather and you cant open the windows very much due to a safety lock. If the rooms had air-con I wouldn't be able to fault it! The bar/restaurant area was lovely too and very reasonably priced. Infact I think it was slightly cheaper than the centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. I would definitely go back and would highly recommend a stay here.

Wonderful location, great atmosphere in the pub/diner, great location. Room very clean and quiet, unfortunately it was located right above the breakfast room where there was a private party past midnight blaring music, but hey, it was Saturday night after all. Great breakfast spread. Would definitely go back, and very central by the park and museums.

Room Tip: Perhaps a quiet room facing the park, not directly above the breakfast room.

A last minute booking and at a bargain rate. Good location, though busy. Not the hotel's fault the city is sweltering- the fan provided allowed us to get some sleep. Room clean and bright though slightly unergonomic- kept falling down bathroom step! The staff were uniformly lovely, helpful and smiling. They made our stay. Tiny quibble that was mega for me though. Hair newly done that morning, smart reception to be at that night - and not a single shower-cap anywhere in the hotel. They've stopped doing them apparently! Definitely a case of tears if not before bedtime then certainly before bathtime...

Room Tip: this is a city centre- ask for quietest room at sides or back

Do not come to this b&b with the hope of a relaxing quite stay. It is basically over what is equivalent to a town centre pub and therefore very loud. In addition there was a live band playing at an event in the room below ours which we were not warned about. The rooms are also unbearably hot, admittedly the weather has been unseasonably warm but no air con & the offering of a small fan was insufficient. This therefore meant all the windows had to be left open, making it even louder coupled with the smell of smoke from pub below.
The rooms and hotel look lovely with some nice pieces of furniture, but I'm afraid its rather style over substance. In our suite, there were no lamps only bright overhead lights, no homely touches, which is a shame as it has potential but due to the lack of these finishing touches it falls short of what a boutique hotel promises within the name.
No toiletries given apart from bottles attached to the wall, which you can't use with the shower cause it washes it away before you get a chance to use it! The bathroom door knob was missing.
We complained when we left and I really wished we had stuck to our guns and not paid the full £220 bill for 2 nights as I really feel it was overpriced for what you get. The receptionist said she could not authorise a discount and the manager would call us. I'm still waiting!!!!!!
