“Go here. It's awesome.”
Reviewed 27 July 2012

Due to a hilarious/disastrous visit to India many years ago, i'm not what you would call a curry fan. It was, therefore, with some trepidation, that i approached the purple poppadom. My anxiety quickly vanished, however, as soon as i caught sight of the mouth-watering offerings being pushed out of the kitchen. It all tasted as good as it looked. The scallops were perfect and the two sauces with them delicately flavoured, the Tiffin Sea Bass was one of the best things i have ever tasted, and the chocolatey desert was divine. My companion was equally wowed by the vegetarian options available, and even as a fish-lover, i was casting jealous glances over at her veggie platter and managed to steal a chunk of heavenly-tasting paneer. The house red was an extremely drinkable accompaniment, and the poppadoms were thoughtfully already broken into manageable pieces with a selection of lovely chutneys. In terms of price, it wasnt cheap, but for food of this standard along with the good service, it was very good value for money. If you like gourmet food then go here. Its awesome.

“Best Indian food I've ever tasted”
Reviewed 25 July 2012

Over the last 30 years I've eaten in many Indian restaurants, most of which are variations on a theme, with all pretty much the same menus. The Purple Poppadom is different!

The menu did not include any of my usuals, so I actually had to look at it to see what was on offer. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and full of different flavours with every bite.

It was, admittedly, more expensive than the usual curry type meal, but it was worth every penny and I will definitely return.

“Gourmet Indian Food tucked away like a little secret.”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

My expectations were high after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and all in all these expectations were surpassed after visiting the Purple Poppadom this Friday.

Despite being hidden away above the Steak House on a  busy road, the atmosphere was warm, inviting and there was a really buzz. Not to loud, not too quiet and not too crowded (even though the place was full).

The service was great and the time between courses was just right.

I ordered the Scallops Side by Side and my husband the Crab from the Pot. As always, my husband won the choice award. The Scallops were great, but there were just two and the sauce in which one was presented slightly overpowered the delicate taste of the scallop – it was still delicious though! The Crab Pot was to die for. Perfect in every sense (see pictures)!

For main course I ordered the signature dish The Tiffin Seabass, whilst delicious, it came swimming is a thick tasty sauce, whilst very nice, did overpower the fish. Again, husband won the choice award by ordering the Nawabi Chicken which was out of this world – this dish is chicken supreme marinated with creamy cheese, a touch of cardamom and mace finished in the tandoor it is accompanied by a boneless bhuna chicken thigh served with makhani sauce and mint sorbet. When we return I am ordering this. Simply divine!

For pudding we shared a Trip of Mango – which finished off the meal perfectly.

All in all, not a cheap night out, we paid £100 including service & drinks, it was worth it. This isn’t a typical Indian restaurant, and I know none other like it. Its contemporary food serves with an Indian twist. My recommendation to GO! Have a great night!

“cant wait to go back!”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

Recently went for a meal here as a group of six. We had a warm welcome and a bit of a wait for our seats as it was very busy, which is always a good sign.
We had heard alot of good things about this place and we were not dissapointed. Food was great for everyone from starters, mains and deserts. Although choosing something to eat was a little difficult as the menu was quite different to a normal one you see in an indian. Thats why i would say its a fine dining indian with a twist.
If you like your indian curries and massive portions then this probably isnt the best place to come, but as a dining experience it is worth the money. I would say the only negative was there wernt many curries to chose from off the menu, you had a couple of fish curries then 2 other curries( massala or roganjosh), alot of fish on the menu, it could of just done with a few more currie options.
But will definately go back.

“Great upmarket Indian food”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

Great food, upmarket Indian food. Dishes are presented interestingly and are clearly well thought out. Even if it sounds odd, it tastes excellent. Even though presented slightly artistically, decent portions. Wine and beer lists are decent.

You need to book.
