“Great location, few problems”
Reviewed 8 December 2009

Went to Cardiff for one night with friends to see Wales v Oz at the Millenium Centre. Arrived at hotel at 2.30 and just managed to get last place in very small, dark car park, just missing top of 4 x 4 car on pipe work hanging from ceiling - be warned. Our room not ready so were upgraded to Presidential Suite, Sounded a lot grander than it was. On 15th floor, which would have had fantastic views if the windows hadn't been so dirty. Nice bathroom with one very low sink. Couldn't believe an old style tv, not flat screen in a Suite, remote didn't work and discovered batteries had been nicked.......

Got beaten at Rugby and came back to absoloutely no hot water. Phoned down and were told everyone had come back at the same time for a shower. For heaven sake what do they expect.......Did voice my complaints next day to Manager, who was at the time having his ear bitten off by someone else staying in a Suite, which they'd paid top price for and were very disappointed. He didn't do anything about it and I'll be writing to them.

£200 a night for a great location, ok breakfast, which you can probably get for £60 a night when the rugby isn't on, bit of a rip off.

Disappointed with our stay. The room was freezing cold, the heating only works when your card is in the slot - so you always come back to a cold room. Bathroom was dirty - lots of mould. Windows were dirty. Breakfast OK but they kept running out of food.
Wouldn't recommend it.

Large room with the biggest bed we have ever seen mini bar which you could have stocked if you wished large TV, Stereo, iron, trouser press, safe and a hair dryer which for some reason was in the desk drawer. If you were staying on business the desk was pleasantly situated with views over Cardiff Bay.Lovely ensuite with large deep corner bath (room for 2) walk in shower and a selection of the usual toiletries.
Breakfast was a selection of cereal, fruit, pastries and of course a selection of freshly cooked bacon,sausage.egg.potato rostis.mushrooms.beans.black pudding etc they even had vegetarian sausages. My only grouch is that you do not get a pot of Tea or Coffee on the table and therefore have to attract a member of staff every time you require a top up.
An added bonus is the car park situated in the hotel basement £12 for 24 hours.

we stayed over for one night here, booked through Late rooms, really reasonable for 4 star city centre hotel, great breakfast, lovely big comfy bed. My 5 year old loved the pool, and the views from the room was great. we had a meal in the restaurant which was good and reasonably priced, although they did bring the wrong meal for my daughter in the frst instance, but quickly replaced it. The only problem was the fire alarm going off at 1.30am. It turned out to be a false alarm thank goodness (5 year old and not very mobile granddad not looking forward to 8 flights of stairs) but we had to call reception to find this out when the alarm stopped and other residents were confused as to whether we had to evacuate. not sure how this could have been handled better, but an apology at check out in the morning would have been nice at least.... Perhaps Mercure should consider some kind of all clear signal to play throughout the hotel for such instances, instead of leaving people wondering whether to evacuate or not!!

however we understand that these things can happen, and would stay here again if in the area.

Wonderful location only 2 minutes from centre, we stayed in a large L-shaped family room on the 14th floor which had windows all the way around giving fabulous views across Cardiff Bay. Room was spotless, reception staff could not do more to help, breakfast wonderful. Pool facility was great with the kids. We normally stay at the Marriott but found this hotel just as good. Would stay there again.

We stayed for one night on 17th October as we were runners in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

The room was on the 14th floor with fabulous views over Cardiff. It was extremely spacious with seating area of settee and 2 easy chairs.

The bathroom was also very nice with a seperate shower cubicle to the large bath.

Breakfast was served early due to the Half Marathon and very hot and an excellent variation.

Parking was £12 per day underneath the hotel and accessed via a side road at the rear of the hotel.

The walk into the City centre was literally minutes and an excellent base if you are visiting the City for a break.

Overall, we wish we had booked for longer but will definitely return.

Generally this hotel was standard fare for a business trip. The room was a little dated and some mould along the shower base. Could have done with some central lighting in the room - too subdued for work. That said the location's good. The staff were very nice and the Gym/Sauna etc were good.

I was not a fan of the food at all.

Would stay again but only if I got a really good deal.
