“Brilliant weekend stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2012

Stayed last weekend & had a wonderful visit as usual - on this occassion for a private party in the KuKu club - the hotels posh nightclub. Despite it being a busy Saturday night our room on the 2nd Floor overlooking the park was peaceful & quiet. Beds are so comfy but the shower is the icing on the cake in these designer rooms. We had a lovely Welsh friendly welcome at breakfast with a table overlooking the civic centre - himself requested poached eggs which he said were to perfection - need I say any more !

This is a great location hotel and overall a wonderful stay. The room I had was an upgrade fro £90 to £120, which I was informed was heavily discounted. Having stayed in both types, the increase is not worth it. The standard rooms for one or two nights is fine.

The beds are soft, pillows great and had plenty of them on the bed. Great services and modern room. The entrance to the hotel lobby is not particularly inspiring but the log fires is certainly a wow factor.

Great service, although I did have to wait a long time to check in as there were three people wanting allsorts with only one receptionist.

I would stay again for sure (if the discounts apply)

Room Tip: Ask for the city view and somewhere away from the lift...

Stayed at this hotel twice in the last month and on both occasions we were not disappointed. On first appearance to my mind the recepion area looked a bit small and uninviting, however on discovering the rest of the hotel it is a real gem.Bar area can get very busy and noisy, and it leads off to the restaurant. We ate here as it seemed less of a bother than going out for a meal, this was the best decision we have made in a long time. Food is outstanding and for the price is absolutley brilliant. On our second visit we made sure we ate at the restaurant,we have been back in Cardiff since and hotel was fully booked, but we made sure that we reserved a table at the restaurant as food was that good.Rooms can be regarded as being on the small side, but they are well appointed and comfy. If you are in Cardiff I would have no worries about staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Have a room at the rear of hotel as it does not suffer with late night clubbing noise at the front o...

We stayed in the Park Plaza following a wedding. The service was first class in the bar and the next day in the restaurant for breakfast. The room we had was comfortable, but equally importantly was clean too. The bedroom had a modern feel, was quiet, and spacious enough for us. The car parking across the road made life easy, and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short break when in Cardiff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel as the street side does sometimes get busy with the nightclu...

My partner Sarah and I have stayed at The Plaza on several occasions, and once also with her 8 year old daughter.

We also suffered the noise issue on our very first visit, but the wonderful Louise on reception made a note of this on our file, and indeed on all our subsequent visits since, we've been placed in rooms at the back of the hotel.

We've always (except on one visit) stayed in the Executive Rooms, very spacious, superb queen sized beds, nicely furnished, excellent bathrooms, with all the amenities you would expect from this category of room.

The Spa is superb, we always make full use of it!!!

We find all the staff throughout the hotel helpful and courteous, nothing is ever too much trouble, all requests complied with, with the minimum of fuss.

The food is excellent, breakfast or dinner at The Laguna Restaurant, we've never had a bad meal, in the latter, your looked after without the staff being too over-bearing, just the right level of service.

If your a regular user, we'd definitely recommend joining the hotels excellent Club Carlson scheme!!!

We heard that Louise on reception had been ill recently and took a bottle of bubbly to the hotel on our last visit, which we were assured by staff would be passed onto her with our best wishes, we hope that you've made a full recovery Louise!

Anthony and Sarah.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms at the back of the hotel, nightclubs opposite!

My husband and I booked a Friday and Saturday night here as a minimoon following our wedding.
The hotel is really well located for the shops and night life and whilst it doesn't have it's own parking there is an NCP one directly opposite (£28.80 for Friday 3pm - Sunday 11am).
The foyer area is very nice with big comfy chairs and sofas and a long line of fires burning.
We booked an executive double which was very nice, double aspect windows, a very very comfortable super king sized bed, a nice seating area with a sofa and 2 chairs and a good bath room with a bath and separate shower.
My only complaint about the room is that it was really cold even after I cranked the air-con right up and this was repeated on Saturday morning at breakfast ,we must have been sat directly underneath a air con vent because it was positively baltic, this was one of the reasons my breakfast was cold before I finished it, On Sunday we asked to be sat somewhere else and this meant there was at least a modicum of warmth left in breakfast before I finished it, although it would be exageration to ever describe it as hot food. Breakfast is a help yourself buffet style with the usual selection of cereal, pastries, fruit and cooked items.
There was some noise on Saturday night and as we were at the back of the hotel I can imagine it is pretty bad at the front, but it is a city centre hotel and the location is part of the attraction. However I was a little disconcerted to have someone trying to get into our room at 3am on Sunday morning, but he was quickly dealt with by security before we really realised what was happening.
All in all this is a good hotel if you want a great location, 5 minutes walk from the main shopping area, restaurants and pubs, but possibly not suited for a quiet weekend away.

Room Tip: the rooms at the back are quieter, but do not completely escape the noise at chucking out time
