“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Stayed for one night in May 2014 and everything about the hotel was excellent. The room was exactly as we had hoped for and the pool & spa area was perfect. My partner likes to swim and we look for hotels with pools big enough to swim properly. This fitted the bill perfectly and was not too busy either. We ate out in town that evening but breakfast in the morning was pretty faultless with plenty of choice. The location is excellent and the NCP car park is literally the other side of the road for those arriving in cars. I'd thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking to stay in Cardiff

Just returned from a 1 night break on the Sunday Spa Package. First time I've stayed at the Park Plaza and it was overall a lovely weekend. Check in was quick and efficient, we arrive just after 11 but signed for the room and left out luggage so we could go and have a walk around the shops.

Staff were happy to help and even remembered us by name when we returned. Room was lovely and clean, very comfortable and quiet. The Spa package included a full body massage and the 2 girls were very professional and friendly. My friend is almost 8 months pregnant and they were happy to cater for her. Relaxation room, swimming pool and jacuzzi all beyond what we expected.

Food at dinner was superb but the service from staff was a bit of a let down. We were only offered a wine menu and when we asked for a drinks menu it seemed like an unreasonable request. I asked if we were able to charge the drinks to to room and was told that was not a problem, wasn't told we had to sign for them and after our plates were cleared no one returned to our table for some time so we got up to leave. As we were walking out the restaurant we were chased after and shouted at by a member of staff accusing us of leaving without paying. Before we even had time to respond he explained to us and all the other guests dining that as we were on a package we had to pay for them. We were obviously aware of this, I gave a pre-authorisation on arrival which easily covered the 2 drinks we had. It was highly embarrassing and humiliating. I don't see why I should be treated differently because of what package I booked. We have stayed in many similar hotels on spa breaks before and have never been made to feel like that. I explained this all on check out but didn't feel like I was taken particularly seriously. Such a shame because the staff at breakfast couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome.

Overall an enjoyable stay but would be reluctant to return because of the staff Sunday evening, such a shame because other than that we couldn't fault it.

Thank you very much for your review following your recent stay at the Park Plaza Cardiff.

May I firstly apologise for any misunderstanding that occurred while you were dining in our Restaurant. As part of the Hotel policy, we do require guests to sign their bills in order to charge it to their rooms. I am sorry if this was not made clear when the bill was presented to your table and that you were made to feel uncomfortable.

On a more positive note, thank you for your positive comments regarding the rest of your stay. I was most pleased to read about how welcome you felt when you arrived at the Hotel. I will also be passing on the lovely comments about your experience in the spa.

I do hope the shortcomings you experienced in the Restaurant will not deter you from staying with us again and I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Spent a night here whilst visiting my daughter at Uni. Had eaten here a few times and had always been impressed by service, food quality and value for money. The accommodation and breakfast did not disappoint. The hotel staff whether in the bar, restaurant or reception are exceptional.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room not opposite the nightclub, though soundproofing is pretty good!

I stay in Cardiff regularly on business a have to say that the park plaza is my favourite stay on business. Beats the Marriott, Hilton, Radisson and Holiday. Rooms, staff Resteraunt and gym are all superior to the competition.

The bed are really comfortable, awesome showers and breakfast was very nice. The gym was well equipped, spotless and the staff were very helpful. Good location as close to the train station and only a short walk into town.
The fireplace in the lobby was a tad hot on a close, thundery day, but that was the only down side.
Would definitely recommend a stay :-)

Had the wonderful opportunity to visit and stay at the Park Plaza in Cardiff for pleasure.
Traveled with my wife and small child.
The hotel and staff were extremely welcoming throughout the whole process(booking, checking in, room, dining and check out)
The staff at breakfast are very cheerful and went out of their way to help ensure all was well and with anyone travelling with a very active 17 month old will know that can be a challenge.

Many thanks Park Plaza for a warm welcome and we look forward to staying again with you in the future

I booked several rooms here as part of a surprise birthday party for my sisters 40th - she was staying in the same hotel as around 7 of us and we all had to try and avoid being seen. Staff were really helpful letting us know what floor she was on so we could stay away! The rooms were big, clean and comfortable and curtains nice and dark for a restful sleep. The breakfast the following morning was delicious and lots of choice including a pancake maker which pleased my nieces!! The spa I didn't make it to but some of the girls did and had lovely pedicures which they were thrilled with. One of the parties safes got stuck and even on a Sunday morning the staff couldn't be more helpful and got it fixed straight away. Staff were all smartly dressed, very friendly and always very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again in a heartbeat, such a pleasurable experience!

Room Tip: Try to stay in one of the internal rooms if on a weekend - the front of the hotel is opposite a few...
