My husband and I are regular visitors to Cardiff and normally stay at the Premier Travel Inn in the City Centre. However, on this trip we decided to stay in the Cardiff Bay area on recommendation by friends. We booked this hotel and wish we hadn’t because it ruined our weekend away. It wasn’t until we were ready to go to bed that we realised that the bed sheets were soiled and covered with pubic hair. This was disgusting enough, so we tried the other double bed in the room, in this one there were some black sticky substances on the sheets. On closer examination, we noticed that the duvet covers were not clean, just simply turned upside down and it was also obvious the pillow cases had been used previously because there were greasy dark marks all over them. The hotel management at first was very reluctant to sort this out. We were offered another room but we said it was too late for us to move. It then took them half an hour to reluctantly turn up with fresh sheets. These were not ironed and only one bed was made up for us. In addition, the room was freezing. The window was broken and would not close properly and there was a lot of noise from the dual carriageway below. We were refused a refund. Never again.

I stay here regularly and have never been disappointed. Polite staff, clean hotel and FREE parking. Easy and accessible, a hassle free hotel. Comes highly recommended if you wish to be in Cardiff but not in the middle of it.

The Future Inn Cardiff Bay is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are large and very comfortable (I always fall asleep easily in the big beds). The place is very clean and I have always found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. Reception and the restraunt also have free wifi access (you can pay for it in your room). Each room also has a DVD player along with some freeview channels.

The hotel is also in a great location; there is a Pizza Hut practically next door and a Miller & Carter grill restaurant across the road. Only 5 minutes walk and you are in the Red Dragon centre (more places to eat + Odeon cinema) which is itself is only a minutes walk from the grand Wales Millenium Centre theatre. Across the road from there is Mermaid Quay which houses many more restaurants, comedy club, Starbucks and plenty of other eating choices. You will now also be right next to the water and have nice views across the bay area.
But always remember that the city centre shops are only a few minutes away by bus - the Cardiff Baycar bus (it's a big blue bendy bus) is the primary connection between the Bay and the City centre. It stops at roughly 5 Bay locations and runs about once every 10 minutes (be sure to check timetables). You can walk to the city centre but with the bus being so frequent and costing fairly little (£3.00 for an all day multi-trip ticket within the Cardiff zone) that it is a great connection to use.

PROs

*Great location (in the Bay within a few minutes walk of many restaurants, cinema etc)

*Nice big, clean rooms

*Super friendly staff

*DVD player in room

*Easily connect to the city centre

CONs

*I honestly cannot think of anything I didn't like. I suppose the breakfast option was a bit expensive if I wanted to include it.

The Future Inn is next to a great area for eating out, movies and theatre while still being easily connected to Cardiff City Centre. The rooms are large and provided me with a great nights sleep - I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Easy registration, staff all friendly, room comfortable, evening meal excellent, breakfast variety very good but slightly expensive (make sure you book it when registering, as the price goes up if you "buy" it in the morning).

There is only one bed-side table. What is that all about, when the room itself is pretty good?

Finding the hotel carpark is fun. The hotel lies behind a "ring road" and guesswork is needed to get to it. Suggest you put some signs up like the Holiday Inn and Novotel.

Otherwise, we fully enjoyed our one night stay.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in january 2011. Booked it as it was the most competitively priced of all the major hotels in and around the bay area.

Very friendly staff on check in and the room was clean and modern. The mist free mirrors in the bathrooms are great.

We payed an extra £9 pp for breakfast which was worth it as there isn't anything else in the vicinity. Breakfast was a buffet style with a choice between full english and continental. You can help your self and the food is pleantiful and very good quality. Free daily papers for guests too.

The only slight draw back is that the hotel is a good 20 minute walk from Cardiff Bay and there is no direct route for pedestrians as you have to walk through numerous car parks. Other than that I would definately recommend and return to this hotel.

Best bit - Parking is free for hotel guests.

Front house manageress was very rude and unhelpfull. Generally staff were lovely. Better rates by phoning the hotel than booking online. Large queue for breakfast and at £12 a head a complete rip off! cheaper to stay at travelodge 2mins away or 5min walk to the bay where lots of choices for breakfast and much cheaper!!!

After reading the other reviews I wonder if we stayed in the same hotel or maybe we are too picky? We found this hotel difficult to find, again maybe our fault as we did not pull off a map to show us where the place was,but thinking it was close to the millenium theatre drove to the bay area to look for it. Wrong! It is situated a very short drive from there overlooking the steel works and between a main road, major roundabout, and a very busy and noisy dual carriageway. Once parked check in was easy with very polite staff, who incidently had finally given us directions on how to find the hotel. He explained many people have difficulty finding it! On to our room, our first thought was it was cold, next the noise from the traffic. On going to the window we realised the curtains were not able to close fully, as the rail was broken. Not a major problem but we looked out on to an office block. Some previous visitor had stuffed toilet paper in to the air vent in the window to try and block out the draft blowing through. The room was dusty, and the bedding as some one else has pointed out was nasty. It did not look clean and fresh, was a murky grey colour and the pillows smelt of ... there is no way to say this nicely.....sweaty heads. Yuck. The bathroom was lovely, but the toilet smelt like a gents urinal and the grouting on the floor was stained, Disgusting.
It is not too far to walk to the theatre, unless you are disabled and the reception did offer to call a taxi for us if we wanted. The walk back in the dark is less pleasant, as you go through two open car parking lots and the cinema complex to get back to the hotel. We ate at the Bospherus, a tukish restaurant . Lovely food great staff, and they even suggested that rather than rush out meal we return for desert and coffee after the show!!
The hotel staff we found helpful and polite, shame about the hotel.
