“Excellent food, it's the acoustic that let's it down. ”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

So for those of you who don't know where it is , it's where gallois was!
Ok the food is excellent. The menu is short but delicious and will have something for everyone.
I had shredded lamb to start which was tasty , in a healthy portion and looked great.
For mains I had duck (£18:50) served with apricots and bubble and squeak. Again big portions and beautifully cooked pink.
My wife had sirloin which, ok looked a tiny bit dull on the plate, but was a quality piece of meat.
It was not if the groups birthday and the waitress picked up in it and brought out the pudding with a candle and happy birthday written on the plate.....nice touch.
The wine is reasonably priced. Bottle if prosecco under £20 and the Pino Grigio was around the £20 mark too
The staff are welcoming efficient and attentive without being a distraction. They were happy to tec omens stuff
The children's menu was nice too, nice chicken strips with tripple cooked chips. All went down very well with our kids.
My one criticism is the se one as it was when it was gallois and oscars and what ever else it's been since then....it's the acoustic of the room. It's too boomy, they need someone to go in there and try to deaden the sound because it is hard to hear what people the other side of the table are saying. If they can sort this out then arbenig will be one of the best restaurants in cardiff.
Having said that.....I will definitely go back even if it's for the salt caramel ice cream

“Fantastic new restaurant”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Couldn't believe that we didn't know about this new restaurant just around the corner from us, we will definitely be regulars! Used to come when it was Le Gallois but didn't like the restaurant that came after. This new restaurant however is absolutely fantastic, truly amazing dishes served in a beautiful restaurant with a relaxing environment and the best front of house team I have ever come across. The desserts were to die for!! If you like fine dining but you don't like the stuffy pretentious feel of them, then this is the restaurant for you.

“Great food”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

I went with friends for a birthday meal. There were 12 of us and we were in a secluded area which was perfect for us. The food was really lovely. I had the courgette and feta salad to start followed by monkfish tacos which were fab. I had the vanilla and coconut cheescake which was nice.

The only issue we had was that one of the waitresses spilt not one, but two drinks down two guests. She was very apologetic and was quite young so possibly inexperienced. We were slightly surprised that the apology drinks were then put on the bill. The food doesn't come out piping hot either so if you like yours piping hot rather than warm then you may want to mention that.

All in all, great food but the odd teething problem to be ironed out. Would come back and hope these are sorted.

“Quality food in welcoming neighbourhood restaurant”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Cardiff needs a restaurant like Arbennig. There are too many that try too hard and think they are fine dining restaurants when they're not. Arbennig is, however, the real deal. I'm sure they don't regard themselves as serious fine dining but the quality of the food is excellent. Fresh ingredients, imaginatively prepared and served by owner managers who care about what they do. Value for money is excellent.
