This used to be quite a good city bed-and-breakfast pub with good ale, food, staff and accommodation. It's changed. On a recent stay, the bedroom was clean but the bed had obviously been used by someone since having been made; the corridors to the bedrooms were scruffy and dirty. Food in the evening was good and reasonably priced, the beer was good and there was a good vibe from the local clientele. Breakfast was - well how can we say - slovenly: I arrived in the breakfat room where plates from other guests' breakfasts had not been cleared; I had cereals, two cups of coffee and read my newspaper before someone arrived to take my order. As I waited and had time to look out of the window I saw a large spiders web hanging between the window and the bowl which held sachets of sauces. The waiter/cook/receptionist/cleaner was quite sweet and helpful. I played safe and ordered boiled eggs. A bit of thought and care and it could be good again.

I stayed here with my Mum back in June 2011 when Take That were at the Millenium Stadium.
5 min walk from town so perfect location.
Free car parking and we got the family room for something like £90/£100. We were made to feel welcome and had good communications via email.
Felt my car was safe and we were safe. Breakfast was good, a nice fry up and cuppa.

Were able to put a glass of wine on tab after the concert which was good! Clean place and would stay there again if I go to another concert in Cardiff.

First impressions were bad. Got there at 11am but you can't physically get into the place until midday, let alone check in. I thought I'd go there and leave my suitcase until it was time to check in. I managed to sneak in the back door and wait to 12 though.

Room was pretty standard, reasonably clean but not spotless. Did have a bath though which was great. Best feature was the 'extra' window pane you got, helped keep the sound out from the street below. Worst feature was the fact there was no bedside table.

Breakfast was ok as well. Nothing amazing but it was served swiftly enough and tasted average. Decent selection of cereals. As it is a Marstons Inn you could buy your lunch/dinner from the pub below the hotel. Ample choice of surprisingly well prepared grub. The pub itself was great. Sunny area out the front, comfortable covered area out the back. Not too noisy but not quiet, friendly crowd, decent prices. Everyone cleared off by 00:20hrs on Saturday night which meant you could sleep.

Located about 5 mins walk from the city's main park and 10-12 mins from the castle/Millennium Stadium/city centre. On a main road but not too much noise due to second window pane.

This place is ideal for a solo traveller or a group of mates who want a good time. Wouldn't take a family though and it wouldn't be very romantic. It was also v.cheap for what you got. DO NOT expect any frills, it's cheap and it's fun.

Okay it's over a pub (pretty good pub mind you) but it was good value, walking distance to town and more importantly saved me a load of car parking charges. It only has 5 rooms, they're basic but a good size and clean. Didn't make breakfast but it smelt good! The owner was really friendly and let us leave the car for a few hours after we checked out so we could see a few more sights and get some lunch which was really handy.

It's not the kind of place you want to stay and relax or be romantic, rather a stop off to go do some adventuring in Cardiff. So ignore all those moaning about the noise from the bar or tv's not working properly - park up, grab a pint, sit outside (beer garden at both front and back) then go do things, that's why you're their right?! If i ever need to stay in Cardiff again I'd definitely stay at the Cayo again, if not just to chat to the landlord again!

Room Tip: They have family rooms which would be useful for groups or stag/hen do's, or families!

Went to stay at the cayo arms for 2 nights, room was nice, bar/hotel staff really lovely. The breakfast on the other hand was terrible, the breakfast room is in need of good clean, the carpet was covered in litter, walls and skirting covered in spillages and peeling wall paper. we were told to help ourselves to the selection of cereals from the dirty table, there was no milk or juice we had to ask for that, on sitting down at a dirty table, we found the glasses to be dirty, not just smeared but with left over drinks in them! The chef (i think) then asked if we wanted a cooked breakfast, to which we foolishly said yes, he then went into the adjoining kitchen, put on some loud rock music and cooked our breakfast. It arrived and looked ok but on tasting it seemed to had been cooked on a dirty grill and tasted of dirty grease! Was a shame as these things could easily be solved. The pub itself is nice and has great outdoor areas to sit with a drink. The hotel is also ideally located to explore Cardiff, it is about a 10 minute walk through a beautiful park to the city centre. We also got a taxi to cardiff bay, costing about £6.50. There was a band on playing jazz music on the 2nd evening, you could hear it from our room but was all quiet by 11pm and we had a good nights sleep. The bath and shower were also good, hot and powerful. All in all nothing that a good spring clean and a little redecorating wouldnt fix.
