“Disappointing”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

What has happened to this restaurant!? This used to be one of our favourite restaurants in Cardiff, not any more, we'll never go back.
In the past we've been more than happy to pay the premium prices charged (i.e., £25 for fillet steak, plus extra for sauce) because it was worth it as the food was so good. We visited last night with friends and the food was very poor. Calamari was rubbery and fillet steak was definitely not a fillet! It was more like a trimmed sirloin that had been cut in half. It was about half an inch thick at best, overcooked and definitely NOT worth the £25 price tag. We could have gone to our local pub and had better steak for £10 less.
The staff were pretty miserable, fixated in scornful expressions that did not provide a pleasant ambience.

Reviewed 29 May 2014

booked in for a Friday night, group of six guys on a rugby weekend.
The restaurant was busy, it suited us, as it appeared to cater for groups. good selection of meat and fish in the display cabinet. we asked for some bread, but it never appeared. asked for Bearnaise sauce, told " no " no offer of anything else.
the meats we had were all good, the halibut was small and had no flavour, very dissapointed.

of the six of us we thought it was a good venue, but overpriced and poor service. not sure its a romantic venue

“Definitely worth a spin”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

It must be the Trip Advisor system that places this good restaurant so far back in the pecking order. It is not easy to eat fresh fish these days and it inevitably costs a little more but is certainly better than the tasteless frozen alternative. The formula of this restaurant is look browse, choose, have it cooked and eat it. We all ate very well although nobody strangely had a desert. Salt and pepper squid was not what I expected - still looking for the pinnacle hit in Sydney in 2003! As usual the wine is over-priced, especially at the lower end of the range where a £5 supermarket bottle of plonk hits £20 but this is endemic so not worth complaining any more.
Would I return - yes but would not take a detour.

“Great fish restaurant ”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

Golf tour group of 10 had a really nice dinner with good quality wines at acceptable prices.

If you enjoy your fish this is the place to visit to enjoy high quality food nicely cooked and well presented. Not cheap but enjoyable.
