Description: Located on the first floor at Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay, Signor Valentino undoubtedly occupies the best position on the waterfront. With views to die for over Cardiff Bay and stretching to Penarth Marina, there balcony of Signor Valentino is a truly remarkable setting for al fresco dining. It feels like you could be anywhere in the Mediterranean. When launched, Signor Valentino became an overnight success in 2001 due to its strong ethos in excellent food and service was a Mecca for dining enthusiasts. Due to the great succes of Signor Valentino Mermaid Quay, we were excited to launch our second locaton in St David's shopping centre providing hungry shoppers with a hot spot for great food, stylish surroundings and great service. The emphasis in both locations is on the delcious Italian food we produce, sourcing the highest quality, locally sourced produce, cooked by our highly qualified team of chefs, the open kitchen in both locations gives our customers the opportunity to watch our teams hard at work producing dishes for your enjoyment. We are very proud of what we have created and we hope you enjoy dining with us as much as we enjoy welcoming you.

This review relates to the Signor Valentino's in the new St Davids Centre. First impressions: Very nice decor with clean fresh colours of white with zingy lime green accent colours. The 1st time we went we ate inside. My only complaint is the level of the music they play. I could feel the bass notes through my seat!! Definitely need to turn the music AND bass level down. Service: Not particularly quick as there only ever seems to be a handful of staff with 1 of those serving behind the bar. There were only 2 other visible waiting staff on duty the 1st time we went and they were rushed off their feet. Consequently they don't always notice when you're ready to order. As this seems to be a very popular place I'm surprised that there's not more staff on hand at busy times.

Food was delicious: The1st time we went I had the Pollo Nero. Very nicely presented: The chicken was succulent and tasty and the sautee potatoes were perfect. The 2nd time we visited we chose to sit outside to avoid the loud music this time around. My Husband had the fillet steak which he described as 'melt in the mouth', I had the fish (think it was sea bass fillets with fennel and orange) Again: Very tasty! I didn't leave a scrap apart from 2 orange pips!
All staff are very nice, smiley and pleasant, so absolutely no complaints on that front.

There are now two venues that go by this name, in Cardiff. This review is actually concerning the sister-venue, in St Davids 2 shopping centre.

I ate there with a friend earlier this evening - enjoying a succulent offering of Prawns Gamberoni in a garlic and white wine butter dressing, some excellent foccacia, and a slightly overcooked veal chop with green beans, McDonalds-style-fries and garlic bread. We finished the evening with a too-subtle lemoncello cheesecake which was more like a slab of cream with lemon dressing and raspberry sauce. All things considered, the service was excellent, but the food average.
