“Was a good choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2012

My friend and I had a short stay in Cardiff and wanted a place with free parking & WIFI as those 2 things can add considerably to the cost of an overnight. The Tanes Hotel - a cross between a B&B and a family run hotel was a good choice for us. It took a little while to track down the owner but the cleaning staff was super nice and helpful during our wait. One does have to carry luggage up steep flights, so it's a good idea to pack what you need in a smaller carry on. The room we had was spacious with an en-suite. Everything was clean, the owners are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel which goes into town and we were happy with our stay.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing away from the main street as traffic noise is quite loud.

We needed to stay near Cathays due to a family berevement and checked the internet for local hotels I stay at lots ofhotels for business reasons in the uk and overseas and I have to say that this hotel reminded me of the traditional B&B's very homely, freindly and they have that personal fell compared to the big hotel chains such as Holiday Inns, Marriotts, Hiltons etc I would happily choose this hotel over any of them. The breakfast was a full english + cereal if you wanted for a mere £4.95 and it was cooked to order, the big hotel chains charge around £15 as an average and it is buffett style so not always hot or fresh. The hotel was just a few minutes from Cardiff Town Centre and whilst situated on a busy road the traffic noise in the room was not noticeable. The staff were very friendly and it was considering why I needed to stay a very pleasureable experience We would defineately stay here again.

Room Tip: When booking you must read the details on all rooms as some do not have toilet and wash facilities i...

We stayed in Tanes Hotel in July for my graduation. We were looking for a hotel which offered free parking close to the city centre and Tanes did not disappoint. We had a warm welcome and delicious cooked breakfasts every morning - well worth the £5 extra! As my family all stayed in this hotel we got to sample single, twin and double rooms - some en-suite and others not. All lived up to a high standard of comfort and cleanliness and we would recommend this B&B to anyone.

I found this hotel on Late rooms a couple of weeks ago. I originally only wanted to stay for a couple of nights, but due to the friendly excellent service at the hotel I have decided to stay every week for the forseeable future. It is convenient for my work and there is no hassel there. I can park my car in the private car park at the back of the property and know it will be safe until the morning.
The rooms are immaculate and staff go in every day to refresh towels, etc.

Breakfast is served at reasonable times and there is plenty of it. I can have ever I want and it is no bother to the chef/waitressI would recommend this hotel to anyone ........contrary to other reviews on here the staff and management have been nothing but friendly and very helpful.

A friendly no-nonsense hotel about 20 mins walk from the centre of Cardiff and well located on the (frequent) bus network, comprised of three town houses put together. Looks as if the rooms have been (tastefully) refurbished quite recently and ours at least (No 16) was large and quiet and looked out to the back - it may be worth asking for quiet, we did and they delivered. Free hassle-free WiFi (large hotel chains take note). Owner very friendly and provided a decent breakfast, although check it's included in your rate as otherwise its extra (although only a fiver).

Overall, would recommend for a short stop if you want straight-forward, good VFM and clean with a bit of character. Some minor niggles, although I wouldn't say they were game-changers e.g. a bedside clock would have been nice, as would a soap dish in the shower and a towel rail in the bathroom, maybe mount the TV on the wall rather than put on a low table - but as I say, niggles. Car park could be challenging if you insist on having a 4x4.

Room Tip: Room 16 is spacious and quiet

Stayed in an ensuite single for just under £35 through booking.com at the Tanes hotel on a busy Saturday night early in July. Although a period building, accommodation and bathroom meet hotel rather than B&B standards. Hotel has a small rear secure private car park accessed from a passage-way off the neighbouring side street that is locked up around 10pm. No problems with free WIFI access of any kind. The big benefit of the hotel is that it is just 10 minutes on foot straight into city center. Hotel appears to be run by an Eastern European couple I suspect of many decades UK residence. Their approach is formal and the place well maintained and clean and thus the whole ambiance is more akin to that of a continental hotel (where standards are normally higher) rather than the less formal but often slapdash approach that you encounter in so many British run establishments -just my opinion obviously :). Didn't take breakfast so won't comment on this but dining room looked spic and span. Be aware that hotel is along one of the main arterial roads into center though well set back from the road. As an experienced traveller, I always travel with a pair of earplugs and can confirm I had no problems sleeping at all despite my room being at the front - all in all highly recommended and this view is corroborated by the Trip Advisor recommendation on the front door when you arrive.

Room Tip: Request a rear room if you're a light sleeper and worried about any road noise - I personally ha...

Found Tanes online and stayed for 2 nights. Had booked a room without realizing that it had shared bathroom facilities, but when I arrived Mr Tanes offered me a room with an ensuite, due to a cancellation. My room was on the top floor over looking the back of the house. Lovely, clean and quiet! Tea making facilities, television and a comfy bed. I decided to walk into town, which only took 15-20 mins, rather than pay for parking in the city. There is a free car park at the back of Tanes, and they lock the gates, for security, @10.00pm. Otherwise, there is street parking on the side street which was ok too, if you get in late. The hotel is being extended, but I heard no noise from the construction site at all. A Really nice, homely place to stay and would definitely go back.
