Stayed here for a night visiting relatives as Cardiff hotels so expensive, and this was just under £40 for a double room. This is an old commercial hotel which is now owned by Wetherspoons, the room was not huge but spotlessly clean, with a decent sized modern shower room. Crisp white bedding, plenty of towels and spare pillows, tea/coffee tray and 2 bottles of mineral water (no biscuits ). Reception was quick, efficient and friendly (thank you Aimee) and there is a lift. We were on the top floor at the back, no view, but good location due to the fact that the ground floor of the building houses a Lloyd's No 1 bar with LOUD music on some nights. We ate in Lloyd's and food was reasonably priced, quickly served by very friendly staff. Later on (Sat night) it got much busier, excellent place for people-watching, not sure what the 2 guys in white masks and Lycra comedies were doing.......at about 11 they turn the music UP then it is very loud till 3 am. Even in our room you could feel the vibration through the floor. On a non music night this would be a FANTASTIC value place to stay, on a music night you won't get to sleep early. Breakfast not included, but Lloyd's open at 7 with usual reasonably priced selection.

Room Tip: If music night go for top floor and take earplugs!

Stayed here in march this year with husband and kids. Hotel is nice, clean and quite spacious. Right in the centre of newport with plenty of shops on the doorstep. Food in adjacent pub was lovely. Staff were very helpful and chatty.

I would recommend this hotel but not for families with small children. Although we enjoyed our stay the noise from the pub at night was very loud. Kids slept on and off, we didn't!

Stayed here in May just travelling through. There was nothing else available and we gave this place a go. It was a Friday night and we where advised by the staff that the band could be a bit noisy. Well, we stayed in the room directly above the Hotel entrance and we all slept though any noise that may have occurred. Dinner was great and the breakfast that came with the price of the room was more than adequate. The bathroom in our room was a bit dingy with about a 20w globe and no windows, but this wouldn't stop me from staying. Basically, a good place and I would stay again.

We stayed here on Saturday and Sunday night. The staff were welcoming, room was clean and well equipped and yes we got a good sleep on both nights! I have to say a Saturday night out in Newport is not for the faint hearted but Sunday was better!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 25 which was at the rear overlooking a small car park so relatively quiet

Having read the reviews on this hotel prior to staying I was expecting the place to be very loud but it was far from that.

I was greeted by a friendly receptionist when I arrived and checked out and my room on the second floor was very clean and tidy. The Shower if anything was slightly too powerful. There was 3 clean towels and an option of a second pillow and tea and coffee facility's.
I paid £33 for this room which reflects the price.
Would consider staying here again if I was in the area.

Having not read the reviews before booking and read them after we were a little concerned but everything was fine.
It's a Wetherspoons so we expect some noise and on arrival were told that Friday and Saturdays are DJ nights so we could hear noise, but to honest it was fine.
Ok you can hear people shouting and stuff but no more than you would expect, perhaps we were lucky? I don't know. But staff were great very helpful about parking
Wifi good mobile signal good
On the whole we would stay again no problems. Thanks for the welcome :). Ohh and the breakfast is cheap and good...unlike many others

Room Tip: Room 11 has a very dark bathroom, light is awful. Would stop in it again though.
