The hotel is on the hilltop, easy to spot when exit M4. We arrived on 31/07/2014 just before 1100 in the morning. A bit lost to find the car-park. Eventually we been told to park in the underground car park which provided 2.5 hours free parking. The front desk was a bit busy due to the check out time at 1100. The receptionist Angela was very nice to provide us with the map and guide for the hotel facilities, Told us where to store our luggage and complimentary car park. The check in time was 1600 hours, but we were invited to use the facilities before that. Ensure to book a shuttle before going to the complimentary car park at the foot of the hill or end up waiting there or climb up the steep road back to the hotel.
We had a light lunch at Merlins Bar, service was good. Then we start using the spa facilities, which were reasonable clean. A relaxing afternoon as adult only until 1500.
Checked in to Room 902 (with a huge balcony and view) before 1600. The room was clean and bed comfortable. A good night sleep that night.
We booked Full body massage - summer special Forum Spa Treatment @£36 for 50 mins (real bargain), which was outstanding value. We enjoy every minutes of it.
We had a wonderful 3 course meal at Rafters, on the other side of the hill, it took a few minutes shuttles to go there. Food and service were both very good.
After a relaxing morning swim. We have breakfast buffet in The Olive Tree, a lot to choose - hot or cold. Food were refill/replace frequently. We love the fresh cut fruits and vegetable juice drink. It was a very busy morning there, however, everything were well managed, We was told by the duty manager that they were serving over 600 guests that morning, We given her a thumb up - well done to her team.
We used the express check out at the lobby - easy and convenience.
Before we left, we got some real bargain branded clothing from their Mall.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the staff & service at Celtic Manor.

p.s. The wifi connection was the best ever we experienced in a hotel.

I stayed at this hotel several years ago prior to hosting the Ryder Cup in 2010. It was incredibly plush and one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. On returning in 2014 it is a very different hotel.
The good points: Helpful staff, lots of staff, good service. Lots of activities for families - superb mini golf! The room was clean and a good size.
The bad points : Our room, the beds had cheap uncomfortable mattresses, the bedding quality was average, and there were several things that needed maintenance - a large table lamp was broken.
I left feeling disappointed as it was not how I had remembered it, the room was expensive and was not up to the decorative standard of similar 5* hotels - premier inn have better rooms.
Such a shame what happened Celtic Manor?

We played golf then had a meal on a Saturday night. The 2010 was amazing and great service from all the guys around. Le Patio was a lovely resturant where we all very much enjoyed our food and they had some good wines to match. The service was also very good with a bus around and back form the main entrance of the Hotel.
Breakfast was also very good with a lot of choice and the food was good quality, the queue goes up and down at around 9am which I assume is the busy period but they cope very well with it and turn tables around quickly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a "golf course view" to be away from the Motorway side

As the premier Hotel in South Wales which is attracting global attention for the forth coming Nato Summit, I thought the resort would be more fresh. Our stay was focused on quality time with friends and the kids activities.
The reception staff on Saturday were very friendly and helpful, as were the staff in the resturant. During this holiday period, the Manor have an additional Bounce World which is located up by the Crazy Golf and this was popular with the kids. The Crazy golf itself provides great interaction with Rafts to pull over streams, shooting balls through mud huts etc. The High Ropes for the older kids was challenging but could be better.
We had a coffee break in the area by the high ropes and found the service very slow with mixed responses from the staff.
On exploring futher, there were area's that needed some updating and looked a littkle tired.

Overall, the food was good, service could be better but we would return

I can't believe that Celtic Manor is #2 in Newport.
Room was clean and tidy but nothing more than that.
Golf courses were good and staff at the clubhouse bars were much better than the hotel or cellar bar.
You would not expect a bar to run out of Fosters on a Friday night and then be offered 1664 as a replacement and being told there is no difference. It's stronger and it's more expensive there's two!
I have stayed at Celtic Manor on a number of occasions over the last few years and I can honestly say the hotel seems to have gone down hill. Never a 5* and if not improved would struggle to be a 4*

On the 10th August four of us had Sunday Lunch in The Olive Tree buffet restaurant which was packed. At 1.30 The platters of starters were decimated with little choice and many empty dishes. The main course was badly prepared, presented and cooked. The vegetables greasy and undercooked- rock hard roast potatoes and parsnips and cold brittle Yorkshire puddings. Yuk. The puddings looked plastic and unappealing like the special offer from the frozen counter at Iceland. And, this cost £32.50 a head!!

To add to this disappointment just as we started to eat a diner vomited over part of the buffet and much of the floor alongside it.

The Staff didn't know what to do. There was nobody to take control and the stench of vomit was stomach churning. The piles of vomit lay alongside the food for approximately 15 minutes until a half hearted attempt was made to clear it up by staff who clearly had no idea of hygiene and health and safety procedure. Some diners were still going to the buffet next to the sick and staff allowed this. It was incredible! We waited to be moved elsewhere, for an apology for the chaos, but this didn't happen as nobody took control. I was a guest so didn't pay but my host paid the full amount, reluctant to create a fuss in front of his guests and desperate to get out fast.

As I left I noticed congealed vomit on the buffet sides where fresh food had been placed. It was the worst dining experience of my life. Thank goodness I didn't pay. I would have refused. Diabolical sums it up!

My boyfriend took me here in July for a Spa Break. The Hotel is beautiful, although rooms are quite average. I think with it being a 5* Hotel I probably expected a lot more. Staff seemed quite unorganised and we were told different things by different staff, for example, when we checked in the lady on reception had told us that we would need to take our robes from our room down to the Spa with is - before leaving our room we phoned down to Guest Services to check this as there was a note in the room saying that if robes were not left in rooms after guests check out that there would be a £38 charge for each robe again we were advised that we were ok to take our robes. While checking out at reception struggling to carry our luggage with the added 2 bulky extra robes the receptionist quizzed us as to why we had our robes as they supply them in the Spa?!! She then told us to ask the Spa staff to make a note that we had brought our robes or else we'd be charged for them!?

Our Spa Offer included an evening meal which we weren't aware was a buffet - this was fine except that the lady in the restaurant plonked us in the corner and didn't bother to explain this to us - we had to work out ourselves that it was a buffet and we were to help ourselves!

The Spa on the other hand is lovely and would definitely use this part of the hotel again.
