It took a while to decide on four stars and I do think that borders on being mean, but there were a few elements that prevent it from getting 5.
The positives - the service is excellent, especially at breakfast. The golfing is stunning, great standard of courses and views. The foyer is beautiful and the spa is great- I especially liked the male sauna, steam and jacuzzi (no offence ladies but it's hard to relax when you're chattering away!).
The (few) negatives are the rooms may need a bit of touching up, the patio door was broken in mine and the decor isn't great. The spa has seen better days with paint peeling and discolouration. The courses are too busy- if you're unfortunate enough to be behind some high handicappers, the difficulty of these courses means they'll spend a lot of time looking for balls and it took my group over 3 hours to play 9 holes!
All said though- I will definitely be back as it is wonderful value for money- just be aware that your round may take 6 hours.

Room Tip: Get a high room- looking onto the resort- the M4 isn't all that pretty! Make use of the shuttle...

Stunning hotel. Fantastic stay. Only downside is the cost. Would have liked to use the facilities especially the spa treatments but impossible due to extreme cost. Very disappointing. Otherwise couldn't fault it for a truly romantic stay.

A resort is the proper name for Celtic Manor, everything is on a grand scale. From needing a minibus to get from the cellar bar to main reception,to the views out over the Severn Crossing and the resorts activity Forrest Jump.WE stayed one night on business. The staff were very friendly, check in was stressed (a bit like Vegas) I guess by the volume of customers and their key card cutting system failing. The room was spacious if getting a tad dated.Breakfast was pretty comprehensive, good quality and plenty of choice. This is a place you have to visit but maybe not too often.

Room Tip: Our room 757 was quiet and had a great view, plus the sunshine all day.

I stayed here for my daughter's Hen weekend. A surprise stay for the two mums. We were both very impressed on first impressions. We were greeted by courteous staff who parked the car and took our luggage. We had a large twin room with lovely views across the countryside, we both enjoyed breakfast with a huge choice to cater for everyone's needs. I particularly enjoyed watching a harp being played while we got our breakfast. The ambience of the place is very peaceful with plenty of activities to keep the whole family happy. I did not have an opportunity to use the spa although it looked lovely. We enjoyed time on the veranda enjoying the sunshine overlooking the grounds. I would have loved more time to enjoy the amenities at the hotel. A hotel to spoil yourself I hope to return again one day.

The hotel is on the hilltop, easy to spot when exit M4. We arrived on 31/07/2014 just before 1100 in the morning. A bit lost to find the car-park. Eventually we been told to park in the underground car park which provided 2.5 hours free parking. The front desk was a bit busy due to the check out time at 1100. The receptionist Angela was very nice to provide us with the map and guide for the hotel facilities, Told us where to store our luggage and complimentary car park. The check in time was 1600 hours, but we were invited to use the facilities before that. Ensure to book a shuttle before going to the complimentary car park at the foot of the hill or end up waiting there or climb up the steep road back to the hotel.
We had a light lunch at Merlins Bar, service was good. Then we start using the spa facilities, which were reasonable clean. A relaxing afternoon as adult only until 1500.
Checked in to Room 902 (with a huge balcony and view) before 1600. The room was clean and bed comfortable. A good night sleep that night.
We booked Full body massage - summer special Forum Spa Treatment @£36 for 50 mins (real bargain), which was outstanding value. We enjoy every minutes of it.
We had a wonderful 3 course meal at Rafters, on the other side of the hill, it took a few minutes shuttles to go there. Food and service were both very good.
After a relaxing morning swim. We have breakfast buffet in The Olive Tree, a lot to choose - hot or cold. Food were refill/replace frequently. We love the fresh cut fruits and vegetable juice drink. It was a very busy morning there, however, everything were well managed, We was told by the duty manager that they were serving over 600 guests that morning, We given her a thumb up - well done to her team.
We used the express check out at the lobby - easy and convenience.
Before we left, we got some real bargain branded clothing from their Mall.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the staff & service at Celtic Manor.

p.s. The wifi connection was the best ever we experienced in a hotel.
