The reason why all 10 of us loved this place and why we all return...

1) TwentyTen- despite it being a fairly new course compared to when you look at some of the best in the uk it really is a quality designed golf course.. The variety of holes you get are second to none.. You find yourself standing on pretty much every tee saying '' what a hole this is''. One thing we found was that the pace of play was very good, the Marshalling on the course was extremely good. Lets be honest who likes playing a 5hr 30 minute round !? So for that reason it made the course alot more enjoyable having not to wait on every hole..

2) Staff were superb, from check in, to bag drop, to restaurant staff, to the shuttle bus drivers, they really were brilliant so well done to them..

3) Having played the The Montgomery and the Roman Road in the past, i do prefer the montgomery however the roman road is still a good test and a fun course to play hence why it would make for a good golf tour..

4) Ok theres no real nightlife in the hotel, i think the latest we could get a drink at was 1:00am which i suppose isn't that bad, but if ur looking for a few late ones your probably best of jumping in a cab and heading to newport....

5) Rooms were nice, would i say they were 5*? probably not, but having said that the service we had at this place was outstanding !!

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we will certainly be returning here next year...

I hope this review helps...

Stay here every year for a business event and all ways find the rooms to be very good and the breakfast quality very good.

Check in and out is slow and the bar/restaurant staff are very slow and rude but I stay here for the room and views.

The golf clubhouse is a must as very good service and great views over Cardiff bay.

Stayed here to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, the room was booked for us by our son. On arrival there was quite a queue to check in but it didn't take long, the receptioinist was fantastic, well groomed and extrememy pleasant, she asked if we had stayed here before (we hadn't) then told us all about the facilties, were everything was located etc. On arriving at our room I was bowled over it was huge, spotlessly clean (except for the pation doors, they were filthy), the bathroom was amazing. we went and had a walk around the hotel stopped off for a drink on one of the many terraces. Dinner was booked for the lodge brassier, we were shuttled up there in no time, made to feel very welcome. The food was very nice, although I did find the menu very limited. Breakfast the next morning was a bit chaotic, I've4 never had to queue to get in the dining room before, but maybe everybody decided to eat at the same time. Once seated at our table, we were shown were to help ourselves to breakfast. The choice of food was amazing and the quality of ingrediants top class (the only negatives, the waitress who showed us to our table had obviously been using false tan her hands were bright orange not what you want, we were poured one cup of coffee and weren't offered a refill, but they are only small things). Called housekeeping to request extra pillows, they arrived with 10 minutes, excellent service. Thank you Celtic Manor Staff you made our wedding anniversary a weekend to remember, loved the congratulations card and chocolates left in our room a very nice touch. We would love to visit again sometime

Room Tip: Could not fault this hotel, or its staff well done

Spent two nights here with family. Although sold as five star it falls way short both in service and food quality. Below average buffet menu at the Olive tree Resturant for dinner. Breakfast nothing more than an average holiday inn breakfast. You do not even get egg of your choice. Staff seemed friendly but we had to really plead to get small things done. No turn down service in rooms.
Few activities for kids and odd enjoy the adventure golf.
Although sold as 5 star they need to get their services much better.

Located a short drive out of Cardiff and easily accessible. Our room was clean and spacious on the 8th floor, interestingly we even found the view of the road/ city fascinating. The swimming pool was good, including a large jacuzzi, check the strict adult to child ratios if you plan to take several children in. We had an evening meal in the Lodge which was excellent, including a courtesy mini bus to whizz us there and back. Although it was busy, it never felt crowded as the hotel is so large. Breakfast was OK, not the best we've had, but not bad! We went as we visited relations and needed somewhere local to stay, otherwise I don't think we'd go there just for a holiday.

The approach to this hotel is off the B4237. If you are coming down the A449 from Monmouth make sure you’re in the correct lane otherwise you will be driving a further 6 miles down the M4 and back.

The resort is large and the roads around it for the first time visitor are not clearly signposted. It is very unclear as to where the free outside car parks are in relation to the hotel (as opposed to the £10 a day underground hotel car park). It is a bit of a trek up hill from the outside car parking to the reception and again the signage is very poor.

The staff throughout my stay were efficient, well presented, friendly and well trained as one would expect from a hotel of this type.

My room was on the eighth floor a fair walk down corridors from the lift and it had the usual facilities as would be expected. It was clean and generally comfortable. There was good free wifi and the room was reasonably well equipped. I had a good view from the large bedroom window. The noise from the room adjacent was a little more noticeably than I would have expected.

The range of food on the menu in the bar was limited and a little pricey, although was well presented.

The breakfast was very good and buffet style which was plentiful and well cooked. Coffee was good. If you haven’t got breakfast included then it is £21.50 extra which I think is unrealistic.

Inevitably with places like this which market themselves as a golfing/health/conferencing resort you get a wide variety of characters. It is certainly good for people watching!

I really don't understand some of the negative reviews on TA about this place. There are minor niggles only which are inevitable with a large establishment such as this, but generally it is a very good hotel. Yes, there is plenty of commentary that they hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010, but why not? It is something for the hotel to be very proud.

Overall a worthwhile stay and despite the trek from the car park a good experience and I would certainly stay again.

My party of four had a good time, however while reading through the reviews I can well understand where things go wrong: Celtic Manor is a massive resort - think of it more as a huge factory or administrative HQ of a company and you will probably get a better understanding of the complexities of running something like this. There is a lot going - we counted three weddings, two separate corporate events, umpteen large golfing parties on three courses, half a dozen restaurants fully packed and the spas, gyms and swimming pool. While it is all running smoothly and you are not personally affected by anything going wrong the experience is somewhat different - however, if things start to go awry and this is the same for any complex organisation, they can spiral quite quickly.

There is no defence for shoddy customer service or overcharging but the percentage of guests being treated badly compared to the vast majority has to be small. If it's you then, I am sorry but brown stuff does happen - take them to the small claims court if it really has been so shocking and disruptive.

Sometimes it really is necessary to defend the reputation of establishments on Trip Advisor - I don't have any affiliation to Celtic Manor by the way - but we found it to be exactly what we expected, a bustling resort that does it best to accommodate and service a very large customer base - and really quite well.
