Carreglwyd Caravan and Camping Site

Phoned about this site on the Thursday and was told that they had space for us the following day. They also didn't require a deposit which was helpful as I had temporarily mislaid my card. On arrival we were shown into the site by the person we believe to be the owner. The check in procedure was nice and straight forward with a young lady who was very helpful and answered our queries.

Site was friendly and whilst toilet facilities were slightly limited in number they were always clean as was the dishwashing area.

Shop had basic supplies but that was great for what we needed. Also items weren't that expensive given it was a small site shop.

Cost was more expensive than others we have visited but the atmosphere and views made it worth this.

Only issue was that as this is a family site it was occasionally a little loud and occasionally when you wanted to relax you found yourself surrounded by kids (they all wanted to fuss our dogs) but on the whole we found everyone friendly and easy going.

Enquired about the camp site by telephone and had a perfectly polite conversation and made a booking for the following day. Checked in quickly and found a good pitch in the third field. A bit of a walk back to the toilet block but exercise was fine. Showers were good and toilets reasonably clean. Great location. Man does go round on quad bike but never spoke to us, we must have been obeying the rules. Actually quite glad that the camp site quietens down by 10pm as family able to get to sleep. Would definitely return, great location and no problems. Plus, recommend that you get fish and chips from Ship Ahoy up in village of Scurlage, really tasty.

I have been visiting this site for many, many years, always putting up with the rudeness and the bad attitudes and enormous annual price increases due to a real soft spot for the location, however our recent trip in June 2013 will sadly be our last, the site is completely ruined for us.

I have read all of the comments here and have to completely agree with the comments on rudeness, arrogance and downright lack of respect for paying customers. This has degenerated from irritating to completely unacceptable.

The increase in electric hook-ups and regular caravan visitors has placed tents at the very bottom of the list.

The toilets are completely inadequate, dirty and too far away for at least half of the site. The site is overpriced, we paid £22 per night for three of us in a small camper with no electricity, this price is way too high for what is essentially some fields.

If you take your chances on a random pitch with no electric hook up you are pretty much guaranteed to be surrounded by enormous groups of people with unruly children who will stay up until the early hours drinking, shouting and generally spoiling the atmosphere for everyone, this cannot be dealt with as there is no-one in the office by the time the problems emerge.

When we complained that three separate groups of people had pitched their tents less than a metre away from ours (4 metre rule on the sheet) the owner said it was fine and did nothing, this becomes a matter of safety I am afraid with so many people using BBQ's.

I have seen people driving to the toilets in the middle of the night drunk, (yikes how vulnerable are you in a small tent in this case) as well as throwing food around the site, kicking footballs into sleeping peoples tents, encouraging children to burn sticks and rubbish on still lit BBQ's, weeing in the grass outside our tent - the list goes on and I am afraid we cannot stomach it.

The primary concern for this site is cash, there is no customer care. It is a travesty as it is such an amazing location. Could they be persuaded to sell to someone better I wonder?

I have always been proud to be Welsh and proud to tell people what a hospitable nation we are. This, however, is not the case if you are a visitor to this site! It is an embarrassment! Both my husband and myself are retired and have camped all over Europe. Fortunately, in our 44 years of camping we have never met such rude and unfriendly campsite owners/workers! Fortunately for us, we were only visiting our family and grandchildren here and as nice as the beach view may be,you would not catch us putting any more money into their coffers! Also I may add, please be aware there is only one toilet block which is near the entrance! If you are camped at any of the other three fields which is a distance of around half a mile you had better prepare yourselves for a long hike as one of the many, many lists of rules is that you are only allowed to use your vehicle to enter and exit the site! To cap it all, our family's car battery had died so they went to ask in Reception if they had jump leads they could borrow? They were told they could buy them for £10.....!!!! Unbelievable! Thank goodness we lived locally and could help out! Carreglwyd.....? Err, Fawlty Towers more like!!!

A nicely located site, but the price seemed a bit steep at £21 a night just for a pitch, no extras. The toilets weren't clean at anytime I used them.
The main gripe I had though is that on arrival you are given a set of rules for the site, one being after 10pm they like people to be quiet as it is a family site. A shame then that a little group of charmers kept the noise going til 1am without any of the staff doing anything, leaving it to paying guests to sort out.
The site doesn't have a facility to freeze your ice packs for cool boxes, they sell ice which isn't much use once its melted.
We used to use this park frequently but think this trip was the last time we use it.

Have been going for several years as a local it's a great place to chill out with other like minded locals, excellent location for launching kayaks from our motor home and fab walks for the dog. We used to be able to pitch up after work on a Friday night however now you have to book in advance and for a minimum of 3 nights on a bank holiday and minimum 2 nights school hols. Some people just want a night away due to caring commitments of elderly parents but be close to home. S aff also hav an attitude as if you are doing the a favour...... Actually we are your bread and butter if you don't like customers why are you running a campsite. £22 per night no hook up is high for such basic facilities. It's such a shame it used to be a fab site.
