“Great Site - Wonderful location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

First time using our caravan, this was a great place to start. We had a lovely pitch in the stone circle field, with great views of the sea. The owners were helpful and friendly and for late check outs simply asked for a donation to the Air Ambulance which was a lovely gesture and appreciated. The shop is well stocked and the onsite loo/shower and wash-up facilities were very good. I would recommend this site, fab location, good access, dog friendly.. Really good.

We have stayed at Pitton Cross for the last eight years and it is the nicest site we have stayed on with, first our old trailer tent and now with a new tent. The family owners are very friendly and helpful and have always looked after us very well. Roger is a keen walker and can advise on walks depending on your age and fitness!

Site is very flat with areas divided into fields with hedge shelter. Has grass and hard-standing pitches many with hook ups and plenty of water points. Now also have some Shepherds Huts which are run by a separate company. Children seem to enjoy the revamped playground. Facilities are :- camp shop with all the basics plus beach toys and kites etc, wash, toilet and shower facilities with water always hot, washing up room, laundry, baby wash room and disabled shower/toilet room. Only time that facilities are less than perfect is when campers don't clear up after themselves!

Nearest beach can be walked to and is lovely, though a little scramble at the end to get down, can also be accessed nearer at next village. Local area is stunning with walks, views, a variety of different beaches and some good pubs. The best view is from Worms Head Hotel at Rhossili. Bus stop outside camp site takes you to various destinations including Swansea. In June the wild flowers are lovely, with orchids in many meadows

Nearest shop is at Scurlage, about two and a half miles and further on at the garage at Knelston. They are better stocked for fresh food in the main holidays but are adequate for camping. Chippy at Scurlage doesn't open every day out of season, but they cook to order so lovely and hot. Big pub at Scurlage has free wi fi and attached site has swimming pool open to the public. Take note that Gower doesn't have much in the way of indoor activities for wet days, but that's partly why it is so unspoilt. Go there!

Room Tip: Owners will often give you a choice of pitch, just be aware that those with the best sea view can ge...

Positives - the beach you can walk to although its a long walk with pre schoolers is stunning. The campsite staff are very friendly and its quiet at night. The playground is good for under 5's. Site very clean as are toilets and fields split so good if you have a young family.

Negatives- no pub within walking distance and I think if it rained you would have been hard pressed to find something to do.

We booked fairly last minute, as we needed a break away...I was delighted to find the campsite had space for the weekend and immediately booked. I thought it was a tad pricey at first glance, but compares with other campsites in the locality and they are roughly the same sort of price range.

We'd stayed here a few times about 8 or 9 years ago so we were looking forward to returning :-)

We were fortunate to have glorious weather, and were pitched in one of the hedged pitches, which suited us fine. We arrived late on Friday so checked in on Saturday morning.

Well stocked shop, clean showers and toilets plus plenty of washing up space.

There are several lovely walks from the campsite, which we've done before and can highly recommend.

We probably would return, but due to the location I can't imagine staying more than 2 or 3 nights.

Thanks Pitton Cross for a lovely, relaxing weekend.

Stayed here for 2 nights in early June, using our newly acquired motorhome. Very windy and stormy forecast, but we were directed to a pitch with some protection without asking. Pitches were in lettered blocks and easy to find, with hard-standings and grass pitches to satisfy every taste and well-spaced out, with people requiring a quieter area given pitches in quiet corners. Most of the pitches had rural views and a sight of the sea.The showers were clean, the water piping hot and the hair drying section is a nice touch, although the hand driers were a tad slow. A walk round the site showed it to be well-maintained, with hard roads and grassy paths. To our delight, one of the fields within the site had the most amazing host of wild orchids we've ever seen. A commitment to wildlife, when it could have been mown for more pitches! Walking down the sign-posted path to the Coastal Path was a pleasure after seeing this, and with the sound of skylarks ringing in our ears, we felt a real sense of rest and recreation as part of the magic of the western end of the Gower peninsular. The shop was a revelation, stocking everything you might need, from food to wet suits, buckets and spades to fishing bait. So, overall, a great site, either as a base camp for a longer stay, or as short-stay tourists, like us. Everyone we met was cheerful and helpful so we have no hesitation is saying, "Thoroughly recommended", and we hope to go back later in the year.

Room Tip: If you like privacy, ask for a pitch in one of the smaller blocks where there are hedges.

Stayed here for 2 nights during May. We arrived just within the arrival time (9pm) due to our old air cooled bus overheating en route!

Owner kindly showed us to our pitch (gave us a choice of 2) and told us we could check in the following morning.

We had a hard standing pitch with a grass side for our awning. Pitches are good sizes and spaced out, not cramped together like some sites we've been to over the years.

A short walk to the toilet blocks. Well lit with ample toilets, showers and sinks. Clean and well maintained. No doors on the sink cubicles which was a tad annoying but no problem. A separate area with hairdryers, chairs and mirrors which was a nice.

Good facilities for washing dishes, plenty of hot water and sinks. Washing machines and tumble dryers available.

On site shop which was small but stocked everything. Lots of nice little gifts, postcards as well as beach gear, wetsuits, kites etc. A little box on the counter acted as a post box too which was handy!

We walked down to the beach through some farmers fields (direct access from the campsite) which was a lovely rural walk. We went to Ramsgrove beach first. Very rocky and ideal for rock pooling. We then walked along the coastal path to Mewslade beach which was sandy.

Overall, a good, quiet site. Great views of the tumbling hills and the sea in the not too far distance.

Staff very friendly and most helpful. Will defiantly be going back here.

Good campsite. Great views, nice friendly staff very helpful. Toilet blocks very clean. Grass could do with a short cut on camping pitches. The play area for the kids is quite basic. Other than that the site is a nice little campsite.
