I stayed here with my dad in late October 2006 and was pleasantly surprised by this guesthouse. We were only there for one night but that was enough to make me recommend this to others and I would return there again with no worries.
On seeing that it had only 1 star from the Welsh Tourist Board, I did not have very high expectations. However, it was much better than anticipated. On arrival, we were greeted by warm, friendly, helpful staff and given our room keys.
We did have to climb a lot of stairs as our rooms were right at the top, but the rooms were nice. Everything looked and smelt clean and fresh, including the bedding which had clearly just been changed for us. The beds were made and there was no rubbish anywhere. There was a working colour tv and a clean kettle and cups and tea, coffee, sugar, spoons etc to make drinks. The room was a good size and the windows opened easily if you wanted some fresh air.
The baths/showers/toilets were shared with and located on the floor below, but there were never queues and all facilties were clean.
You are given keys to the front door as well as your room, so you can come and go as you please.
We were told on arrival when breakfast was served, you can come down for it when you like from about 8.30 am. The staff will prepare you what you like for breakfast (cereal, toast, bacon and eggs etc) and are friendly and courteous. The food is nice and properly cooked and the service is good.
You check out late morning and pay your bill then (no advance payments!)
Overall it's great value for money, clean, cosy and comfortable, perfect if you want somewhere nice to stay on a low budget.
