“Excellent food and top class service.”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Well, we were up in Belfast for the weekend and came across this gem of a restaurant about 1 minute walk from Shaftsbury Square.
WOW. We were amazed with the extensive selection and choices of home cooked ( as you request ) dishes available including dairy free, caffeine free, vegetarian, and vegan and lots more, all at excellent and cheap prices.
The standard of food is excellent and the food and presentation of the dishes rival many of the top restaurants we have eaten in, and the portions are generous. The food was cooked to perfection. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, and the staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly.
It was great to avail of the FREE superfass WIFI.
Alan's Causeway Cafe is a must visit if your in Belfast, its just a pity they are not open in Dublin!
We're looking forward to our next visit to Belfast and we will be trying some more of these mouth-watering dishes.
Thanks for the excellent hospitality,
Jamie & Jessie

“Price over location and looks”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We went here for brekkie after seeing the reviews, it wasn't what I expected. Its in a dodgy looking area and I didn't realise it was part of the Youth Hostel. The café is clean but basic and the toilet is dreadful. However, the food is cheap, filling and plentiful. I had a notion for a toastie before id even got there, but didn't expect to get it in the morning. The server was really helpful and was able to make one no bother. They even provide soya milk and decaf coffee. Served the purpose for us. Its just beside KFC past all the main pubs on the Golden Mile

Dear Fifetracey
Thank you so much for reviewing our Cafe. We are glad you enjoyed our food, friendly service and attention to offering customers the options of dairy free and caffeine free products (we also offer gluten free products too). We really appreciate your positive comments.
Our Cafe isn't actually part of the Youth Hostel, we are a small family owned business and operate totally independently from the Youth Hostel next door, although we do rent our premises from the Youth Hostel.
I appreciate you comments with regards to our dining facilities currently being quite basic, as we are currently undergoing a refurbishment program and our leather sofas, armchairs, and art work have all been removed awaiting the work starting. We hope to have the work completed by the end of october, so hopefully you'll return to see us and our fantastic new look.
We also accept that currently the bathroom facilities are in need of improvement, unfortunately these have been under the care of the Youth Hostel and we are negotiating with them for renovation to take place asap, parallel with our own refurbishment.
I would like to mention we receive a % out of 5 rating From Environmental Health and Food safety from Belfast City Council for all areas of the property, and management which we are very proud of.
We would love to show you around our new look cafe in the future, if you make yourself know we will happily give you a guided tour.
Regards
Alan

“Nice food”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

It is a nice little cafe located in the premises of Belfast International Youth Hostel. Friendly staff and nice extensive menu. Good service. Prices are not very high. Quality of food is good. Free wifi is available which has got a great speed. I had really nice sandwiches for breakfast. Only negative I could find is that toilet is pathetic.

Dear KPJ_UK_NCL
Thankyou for taking the time to review our Cafe.
We are delighted to receive the positive feedback, and we continue our endevours to offer the best quality of food, widest selection of menu and the best service we can, all whilst retaining the lowest prices possible.
As you may be aware our Cafe (although attached to the Youth Hostel) is independently and privately owned.
Our cafe business holds 9 years award from Belfast City Council Environmental Health for our standards of cleanliness and food management.
Unfortunately the toilets on the premises belong to and are maintained by the Youth Hostel, and as we do appreciate that these are for the use of our customers, we have been in recent discussions with the Youth Hostel with regards to updating and improving these facilities.
We are delighted you enjoyed our food and service, and as a recent addition we are happy to know that the installation of WIFI is proving beneficial to our customers.
Regards
Alan Doherty

“Excellent Staff Menu and Food”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

I was last here a couple of years ago. I gave it great score then, but its now even better.
I'd highly recommend it to any visitor in Belfast, its a little distance off Great Victoria Street / Shaftbury Square, but worth the walk that would take you less than a minute.
The guys go out of their way to be helpful, friendly, and always take a lot of care over their food and presentation.
When I was there in July it was a public holiday, and they discounted some of their prices when most other place were putting them up, which is a nice touch.
Their food is restaurant quality for budget price, its all nicely cooked.
Look it up, and make a point of going if you are in Belfast, they open every day of the week from I think 7.55am even on sundays. I'll be back soon
