“B&B for a one night stand”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

Good location and if you can get a cheap rate it's worth a try as everything is pretty much walkable - but rooms are not exactly luxurious. It's definitely targeted at tour groups who only stay for one night: hardish bed with no spare pillows or blankets available; the "wardrobe" amounts to two coat hooks with two coat hangers on each, there are no drawers to store bits and bobs and although there's a kettle, supplies are fairly limited and there's no minibar to keep milk or water cool.

Breakfast is even more of a scrum than many similar overnighters - good selection of food but too small a space to wrestle with separate juice, milk and hot drink machines all within 2 feet of each other. You need two goes to get real toast too, as the settings have been turned down too far on the machines.

The food in the restaurant looked OK for real punters who can't face going out (there are several good places nearby) but the poor tour party who had stayed for more than one night seemed to be pretty fed up of "mash + indiscriminate protein" and took most pleasure from turning their bowls upside down to prove how solidly frozen the pink ice cream was. Bar staff are friendly and cocktails at £6 each are worth a try if you can stand the "live" music duo in the evenings but to be honest, you can eat and drink much better by stepping outside a few paces.

Convenient it may be - but don't expect a comfortable home from home.

Room Tip: Inside rooms are quiet but the view over the dingy service area is terrible - ask for a room with an...

On arrival we had to wait around 30minutes to get checked in.Initially this was blamed on a fault with the system (at which point they probably should have offered to get us a drink in the bar while we waited for them to fix it), the poor receptionist tried to track down his manager to address the situation - the manager had apparently gone awol. After around 20mins the receptionist came over and advised that the Manager had confirmed that there was a problem with the doors on the double rooms that were left, so we could either have a twin, or find another hotel.

I would expect that the Manager was well aware of this issue in advance and could have forewarned the reception staff that there would be an issue with our (and perhaps others) check in and provide a solution upfront, also the Manager should have come and spoken directly with us rather than sending the receptionist who was clearly uncomfortable and in over their head.

In the end we opted to stay in a twin (which was not ideal - being on holiday as a couple for a weekend away, but having to faff around trying to find another hotel at that time...not an option!) and I had to prompt them to ask what sort of compensation they would offer (again - service industry 101 - provide a solution to fix the problem!). They ended up giving us a couple of baskets with crisps, coke, toilettres and dressing gowns - didn't exactly make up for the fact we were sleeping in single beds, but the gesture was appreciated (would have been more so if we hadn't had to prompt for it, and if the manager had actually bothered to show their face to address the situation)

As for the room - aside from the single bed issue, it was fine, shower was decent, pillows comfortable etc.

The buffet breakfast was a mixed bag - they had run out of fruit around 45mins before breakfast ended, most of hot options were fine - and there was a decent range, as well as cereal and yoghurt.

We had dinner at the restaurant - SQ in house, and that was really good - but that is really a subject for a separate review.

So all in all - I wouldn't let out poor experience put you off - it is a decent, though character free, hotel in a good location. However, their front desk manager really needs a refresher course in customer service.

Room Tip: Cross your fingers and hope for the best - but don't expect much help if things go wrong!

Review based on 'executive room'.

Overall room and stay was ok.

Good points:-
top floor was quiet, even though hotel on main road;
complimentary fruit and daily papers on exiting lift on 'executive floor';
large walk in shower.

Bad points:-
Laminate floor was dark, couple of big spaces between joins and just too dusty under foot;
No air conditioning in executive rooms;
Poorly located mirror at corner of room with fixed furniture before it. Only suitable if your are a contortionist.

Although room was fine, I would only stay again if room rate was ultra cheap!

We have just returned from a “Newmarket Travel” short break to Belfast staying at the “Ramada Encore”.
What a pleasant base and convenient to walk to the shopping centre and all the sites.
The hotel was quite basically appointed but was very comfortable and had all the necessary requirements. The rooms and public places spotlessly clean, the buffet breakfast was superb and the cheerful staff couldn’t do enough for us, including pointing out that there was free internet access to check our emails.
They even offered to post on my wife’s cardigan which was left on a coach trip, if the travel company ever finds it.
Will certainly return to this wonderful City and stay at “The Ramada Encore”.

Room Tip: Can be slightly noisy from ouside smokers at nearby bar and wholesale indoor market but high level r...

This is a nice 3/4 star hotel with very pleasant and helpful reception staff. It is so close to the Titanic Exebition and the city. Both within 10 mins. walk. Rooms modern and comfortable. I would recomend this hotel.

The best thing I can say about this hotel is that it has an excellent location and extremely friendly staff. However, the rooms are very disappointing. To my North American sensibilities, this is little more than a dorm room: white walls, hardwood floors, and IKEA-style furnishings throughout. There is very little here that indicates that you are staying at a fashionable downtown hotel. And the shower has the bad feature that it is open to the bathroom such that water fills the entire bathroom floor when you shower (very stupid design). The only free WiFi is in the lobby, and so you have to haul down to the lobby every time you want to go online. In addition, the WiFi is super-slow. I paid about $80/night for the room, and so the hotel is definitely a good deal given its central location. However, I would have preferred to pay more so as to rise above the IKEA feel of the room.

Stayed 4 nights at armada Belfast between 16-20th of August 2012. Check in was easy and room size was ok . We arrived late at night so we wanted to have anything to eat room service menue was not available so we went to the bar lounge area to have dinner tables and floor was not clean and the food was tasteless.. Beds in the room is so hard and uncomfortable. And pillows are so thin we had to ask reception in our second day for more pillows which they provided . Internet connection was down in the rooms all our stay. Another down side to hotel there is no safe in the rooms . And no private ones in reception. I would not stay in it again if I plan a trip to Belfast again.
